Map and Directions

For the first time, the SORG will begin our Module series in New York City, specifically addressing the many oral and maxillofacial surgery residents in that area and in the adjacent areas. This will be in addition to the existing 4 part Module series that moves around the country with 2 of the Modules given each year. We will start the New York Module series with Module 1 and continue in sequential order each year. In addition to our established SORG Faculty, this Module will include some of the excellent educators from the New York area.

Purpose

Module 1 focuses on principles of clinical pathology and reconstruction of the head and neck region. The course is designed to assist the surgical  professional with the diagnostic tools and surgical approaches in the comprehensive management of patients.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the course the participant will be able to:

  • Apply critical thinking pathways in the differential diagnosis of lesions in the oral and maxillofacial region.

  • Describe the diagnosis, epidemiology and management of oral cancer.

  • Review and identify different approaches to head and neck reconstruction.

  • Improve the understanding of microsurgical techniques and free flap selection.

  • Discuss the indication for bone grafts and bone flaps in critical size defects.
