The US Department of Education, in partnership with its Comprehensive Centers and other regional technical assistance service agencies, is hosting four regional capacity building conferences in support of state education agencies (SEAs), local education agencies (LEAs), and schools implementing SIGs.

The priority topics for these conferences include:  Effective Teachers and Leaders; Instruction and Assessment; Optimizing Teaching and Learning; Planning and Sustainability. In addition, the Central Regional Conference will feature sessions focused on the unique needs of rural schools and schools serving American Indians and Alaska Natives.

This two-day conference will provide SEAs, LEAs, and SIG awardees with valuable information that will help guide their efforts to turn around low-performing schools. In addition, the conference has built-in team planning blocks on each day to afford state, school, or district teams to work on actionable plans for the near future based on research based practices.  Participants will also have the opportunity to share and reflect with role-alike colleagues and groups.

Invited experts over the course of the two days will include Dean Fixsen, Kevin Skenandore, Lisa Kinnaman, Keith Moore and other national leaders. In addition to providing research-based presentations, practitioners from schools and districts in the Central region who have made progress to successfully turn around their schools will be invited to share their stories.  Tools and templates that can support the SIG grantees will also be provided during the working sessions each day.
