DESCRIPTION:
Provide an overview of the state of perinatal HIV transmission in Illinois including activities, accomplishments, and future plans. Explore opportunities for participants to impact this issue in their work and local communities.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of this institute, participants will be able to:

1.       Explain the comprehensive set of activities and programs in Illinois
          to prevent perinatal transmission of HIV.

2.       Describe the population of pregnant women with HIV in Illinois.

3.       Recognize trends in perinatal HIV transmission in Illinois, and
          describe the main causes of residual cases of perinatal infection.

4.       Identify concrete steps to improve collaboration to strengthen 
          perinatal HIV prevention efforts.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Health department personnel, case managers, nurses, allied health professionals, public health professionals, health educators, social service and other community-based agency staff, mental health and substance abuse counselors, social workers, and HIV/STD prevention, counseling and testing personnel.
