ExtremeXOS Fundamentals (ECNA)

Course Description
Students will gain working knowledge of networking fundamentals and simple management techniques required to be successful in understanding Extreme Networks networking solutions. This knowledge will be reinforced through actual hands-on experience with networking equipment in a lab environment, where students will validate information discussed in lecture while completing real-world tasks. In addition, this course will also create the foundation of knowledge for attending future Extreme Networks technical education courses.

Target Audience
This course is designed for individuals responsible for the configuration, management, maintenance, and support of the Extreme Networks family of LAN switches.

Course Prerequisites
A working familiarity with LAN concepts, including basic Ethernet and TCP/IP is required.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will have gained the knowledge of networking basics required to be successful in understanding Extreme Networks networking solutions. In addition, this course will create the foundation for attending future Extreme technical education courses.

Course Outline
  • Introduction and discussions regarding Internet Protocol (IP) including IPv4 vs. IPv6 address notation, classes, masks and sub-netting. The OSI model as well as IEEE 802.3 Ethernet will also be reviewed.
  • Overview and hands-on lab of IEEE 802.1Q and VLAN’s, including fundamental operation, configuration and design, as well as using an 802.1Q trunk.
  • Introduction and implementation of Spanning Tree, including discussions on the Spanning Tree algorithm, protocol operation, as well as an overview and configuration of Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP), which includes benefits of LACP and recommended best practices.
  • Overview of Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) including components and functionality. In addition, common networking applications will also be discussed.
