This course will cover the concept of fracture modeling in relation to how it is used in Petrel and the oil industry in general. It focuses on which input data are available and how they can be used in Petrel. Various processes in Petrel will be used to view, quality check and manipulate the input fracture data to prepare it for the main fracture modeling processes. This includes creating tadpoles and rose diagrams, displaying Dip and Azimuth of fractures, and creating stereonets and using interactive filter selections. In Petrel fracture modeling is split into two processes; generation of a Discrete Fracture Network (DFN), and Upscaling fracture attributes to generate fracture Porosity, Permeability and Sigma (connection) factor. These processes will be covered and varied using different fracture driver properties. In addition, the user will prepare secondary properties for use in the modeling of fracture intensity and neural net to combine the fracture driver properties. The fracture modeling course will also briefly cover how the output fracture properties that can be used for Simulation.
Prerequisites: Petrel Introduction course and experience using Petrel software is recommended.
