2010 Volks Ski Fest Calendar and Registration will be active soon.   In the meantime, please note the above dates for your calendar.  Below is a list of events throughout the week of Jan. 23-31, 2010. This year we will be adding an exciting Kick Off event to Volks Fest: the Volks Ski 400 on Saturday, January 23, 2010.

The Volks Ski Fest is a fun, laid back, skiing and snowshoeing festival for the whole family!  All week-long, all over Cook County, MN there are events designed to help everyone get out and enjoy the 400 Hundred Kilometers of professionally groomed and beautiful northwoods trails. 

You can try to be the person to ski the most km in a week...or enjoy a leisurely ski just one day.  Check out the list of events that are being planned for the 2010 Volks Ski Fest.

Volks Ski 400 Kick Off Ski Day
Saturday, January 23, 2010

Register yourself or a team in advance and choose a segment of our 400 km of trails to ski.
Our goal is to have skiers on every kilometer of trail on that day!  This is not a race or competition, just a day to Kick Off Volks Ski Fest and raise money for Pancreatic Cancer.
We encourage skiers to time their treks, we will post times that day at trail lodges and on this website.
A portion of the registration fee benefits Pancreatic Cancer research, dress in purple to show your support.

Guided Snowshoe Hikes

Hike up the frozen Kadunce river east of Grand Marais to the falls or enjoy a guided trip to beautiful Oberg Mountain or Onion River in the West End of Cook County.

Bring your friends, family or sweetheart for a charming night-time ski along Cascade Lodge’s beautifully groomed trails.  Warm up, drink hot chocolate and socialize afterward at a blazing bonfire.

Enjoy a bonfire and delicious treats while overlooking one of the most beautiful beaches on the North Shore. 

Lit trail skiing at Pincushion Trails, Grand Marais

Any time after dusk

Enjoy one of the county’s most popular trails after the sun sets.  When your ski is done, take a few minutes to warm up in the Warming Chalet.  Don’t forget to take a picture of the panoramic view of Grand Marais! 


Waxing clinics

Learn how to wax your cross country skis for all trail conditions.  Join an expert skier as they explain the ins and outs of using glide wax and kick wax for your best performance on the trails.


Luminary Ski and Bonfire

Bearskin Lodge, Gunflint Trail

Gorgeous ice luminaries will light your way through the trails at Bearskin Lodge.  Afterwards, warm up around the fire and enjoy a hot drink.
