BUILDING PROGRESSIVE ALLIANCES NATIONWIDE AND GLOBALLY

FUNDERS’ DELEGATION AND AGENDA

In a major effort to bring renewed insight and inspiration to social change efforts in the United States, hundreds of community organizations, advocacy groups and national networks will come together in Detroit to build relationships and develop joint strategies for a more effective progressive social agenda.  Dozens of funders will join our delegation to the US Social Forum, to participate in this process and share our own funding strategies for social change.

FNTG has long been involved with the World Social Forum and the US Social Forum and is an observer-member of the organizing council of both. In addition to lodging, transportation and logistical support, funders will receive pre-trip background materials, participate in orientation briefings in Detroit, and meet briefly each day to exchange insights and experiences with other funders sharing similar interests and funding priorities.

A number of funders will be volunteering for work brigades with local community projects associated with cultural and community projects in Detroit.

On the last day of the forum, FNTG will organize an assessment session for funders to share insights gained over the course of the week, discuss ways in which participation in the delegation may impact individual grantmaking, and explore the potential for future joint initiatives among funders interested in these issues.
