Urge State Lawmakers to Uphold the Promise
to California's Students!

Chapter Presidents and SCC Chairs are invited to participate in our upcoming CTA Chapter Presidents Budget Briefing and Lobby Day on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, in Sacramento. During this statewide meeting of chapter presidents, you will play a crucial role in the fight for NO MORE budget cuts to our schools! You will be updated on the latest information on the state budget crisis and hear a detailed analysis of the education portion of the budget. You will also be briefed about ABx4 3 (Evans) that was passed last year by the Legislature with a two-thirds vote and signed into law by the Governor.  This promise to our students created a maintenance factor to restore $11.2 billion to public schools and community colleges.  Now, the Governor has proposed to ignore that law and renege on the promise made to students to restore the $11.2 billion!!  We have to make sure the Governor and the Legislature keep this promise to students!

After the briefing, chapter presidents will lobby state legislators and their staff and urge them to put our students first by protecting public education funding from further cuts, to stand by the budget agreement signed into law -- ABx4 3 (Evans) -- to restore $11.2 billion in funding owed to schools and community colleges, and to oppose any attempts to undermine Proposition 98, the voter-approved minimum school funding guarantee. Our message to the Governor and the Legislature is simple:
Keep Our Promises to Students -- NO MORE budget cuts to our schools!

The May 25th CTA Chapter Presidents Budget Briefing and Lobby Day will be held at the Crest Theatre, located at 1013 “K” Street in downtown Sacramento (on “K” Street Mall, between 10th and 11th Streets). The Crest is one short block away from the State Capitol and a half-block away from the CTA Governmental Relations Office. Registration and continental breakfast will start at 8:30 a.m. and our program will begin at 10:00 a.m. sharp in the main theatre area.  At the end of the day there will be a debriefing session with refreshments and complimentary bus transportation back to the airport.

Due to space restrictions in legislators' offices, we ask that each chapter send only one (1) representative. This is due to the fact that other chapters also may have the same legislators as your chapter, and the legislators’ offices cannot accommodate more than 3-5 people per office at the same time. If a chapter president cannot attend, he/she can send one designee as a substitute.  Thank you for your understanding.
