Airline Travel
Johns Hopkins University is located in Baltimore, Maryland just minutes from the Inner Harbor. We encourage participants to fly into BWI Thurgood Marshall (BWI) airport, which is the closest airport to the university. The campus is located 25 minutes from BWI Thurgood Marshall (BWI), 70 minutes from Ronald Reagan National (DCA), 120 minutes from Dulles International (IAD) airports.

Airport Shuttle
SuperShuttle will be offering a special discount for their shuttle services from BWI Thurgood Marshall (BWI), and ExecuCar is offering discounts on their services from BWI, Dulles International (IAD), or Ronald Reagan National (DCA) airports. We suggest attendees fly into BWI airport if possible.

SuperShuttle BWI:
 After collecting luggage, customer must follow signs to Ground Transportation. Proceed to the pickup
location on the outer curb to speak with a uniformed Customer Service Representative. For the following arrivals:

  • Southwest, Alaska, American, US Airways- the pickup location is located outside the lower level baggage claim area. Exit door #7 and cross the street to outer curb pickup zone C1.
  • Air Canada, Delta, JetBlue, Spirit, United – the pickup location is located outside the lower level baggage claim area. Exit door #12. Cross street to outer curb and walk LEFT to pickup zone C1 (Pickup zone C1 is on the outer curb in front of door #7).
  • Air Mobility Command, British Airways, Charter, Condor, SunWing, WOW, Xtra – the pickup location is located outside the lower level baggage claim area. Exit door #16, cross street to outer curb, walk left along outer curb to pickup zone C1 (Pickup zone C1 is on outer curb in front of door #7).

After hours, customer may call 1 (800) 258-3826 for further assistance.


SuperShuttle DCA: After collecting luggage, customer must proceed to the SuperShuttle ticket counters in terminal A (near Door 1), B (door 4 on the lower level), and C (door 9 on the lower level) baggage claim areas. Counters are staffed from 6:30 AM to 1:00 AM daily*. After hours, customer may call 1 (800) 258-3826 to secure their ride.

SuperShuttle IAD: After collecting your luggage ,customer must proceed to the SuperShuttle ticket counters, located on the lower level by Door 2 for international arrivals, and Door 6 for domestic arrival. After checking in, a uniformed representative will direct customer to the loading areas located at curb 1E. Representatives are on site 24-7.

Other Transportation Options

CCIH unfortunately cannot provide pick-up or drop-off services. However, we encourage you to explore the following options:
  • Public Buses (see more information below)
  • Private Taxis/Uber/Lyft - all convenient options to get around Baltimore. Taxis are usually lined up on the corner of 33rd St and St. Paul St, very close to Charles Commons. Beware of surge pricing on Friday and Saturday nights, especially in the region around the Inner Harbor. 
  • Amtrak and MARC Trains - Baltimore Penn Station hosts a local light rail, Amtrak, and the MARC train. If arriving Monday through Friday, the purple line of the Charm City Circulator takes passengers from the MARC Train/Penn Station at no cost to Charles Commons at Johns Hopkins University. From BWI to Charles Commons:

At the BWI Airport: The BWI Marshall Light Rail Station is located immediately outside the lower level of the terminal building, adjacent to Concourse E.  Take the train to Mt. Royal Avenue, exit the train, and then board the "Penn Station Light Rail" train. There is only one fare for both trains at $1.60 USD each way. Taking the light rail is about 1 hour. Please check this website to confirm operating hours and other details:

From Penn Station in Baltimore you can take a taxi or a bus (003, 011, 061 or the Purple Circulator) to Charles Village (about a 10 min ride). $1.70 USD exact change. 
  • Bus #003 get off on 33rd and St. Paul St. 
  • Bus #011 get off on Charles St. and 33rd St; 
  • Bus #061 get off on Charles St. and 33rd St. 
  • The Purple Circulator bus is free, and can also be picked up at Penn Station, get off at stop #316 called 33rd St. Medstar Union Memorial Hospital.
Charles Commons is right in front of the bus stops.

Parking Options

9 East 33rd Street (across the street from the conference center):  
Can do daily or overnight residential parking first come first serve. The cost is: 1st hour $4.00, then $1.00 per hour up to 8 hours which is $11.00. Anything over 8 hours is $20.00, which includes parking overnight.

San Martin Garage (about a 15 minute walk) 3350 San Martin Drive, Baltimore:
Cost for this lot is $10.50 per day. Overnight guests allowed

Metered parking on the streets (33rd Street, St. Paul Streets, North Charles Street)

There is street parking - please read the meters carefully. Some streets have free parking - if you are willing to walk 15 minutes or so look on St. Paul Street or N. Calvert Street between 28th and 33rd Streets. Most charge for 8am – 6pm or 8am – 9pm. You must pay meters during the designated time but and it is free outside those hours.  Most of these meters are $.50 per hour, but guests should make sure to read the meter in the area they are parking for confirmation on times and prices.
