Expand & Diversify Your Portfolio

Portfolio Showcase
mandatory Portfolio Showcase Release Form
**FULL - waitlist only

The New England SCBWI is thrilled to once again present The Portfolio Showcase for Illustrators. Professional art directors will judge the Portfolio Showcase, with prizes awarded to one winner and two runners-up.

On Friday, April 21, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, the Portfolio Showcase will be open to all conference attendees. Later, from 7:30 pm to 8:45 pm, the Portfolio Showcase will be open for our specially invited art directors, editors, and agents from children’s publishing. Then from 9:00 pm to 10:15 pm the Portfolio Showcase will be open to all attendees. The Portfolio Showcase is a fantastic opportunity for the illustrators who attend the Conference to have a showcase of their work seen by members of the publishing community.

It is free to participate, but space is limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Please sign up for the Portfolio Showcase in the bonus activities when you register for the conference. You must register for BOTH Friday and Saturday of the conference in order to participate in the Portfolio Showcase.

Please fill out the Portfolio Showcase Illustration Release Form and bring it with you when you drop off your portfolio from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Friday night in the Mahogany room. Portfolios must be picked up by 10:30 pm on Friday.

and
R. MICHELSON EMERGING ARTIST AWARD
**Still Accepting Applications.
NOTE:
You do NOT need to participate in the Illustration Challenge in order to apply for this award.
Please click here and scroll down for more information.

In keeping with our theme, Expand and Diversify your Portfolio, we invite you to enter the Illustration Challenge. Your artwork will be displayed in the hallway all day Saturday, April 22nd for everyone to see. This is a great portfolio building exercise and a wonderful promotional opportunity.

In addition, Rich Michelson will choose an artist (unpublished) from this assignment for the R. Michelson Galleries Emerging Artist Award, which is inclusion in the annual Children's Book Illustration show in November. This competition is open to all NESCBWI Illustrators who are unpublished and attending the conference.

CHALLENGE:
We would like you to illustrate this single line of text for a double-page spread of a picture book: “Can I keep it?” Interpret in any way you like. Think about expanding and diversifying your portfolio! Anything goes as long as it is kid through teen friendly.

Click here for more detailed guidelines regarding both the Illustration Challenge AND the Michelson Award.
