PAA Tour Information

We have some great activities planned in conjunction with PAA 2018! Please see the info below. Prices will be posted when registration opens in early 2018.

Sunday, July 22

Graduate Student Activity:   Join in a fun team building exercise with other grad students.  Your team is locked in a themed room with only one goal– get out of there before the hour runs out! To complete your mission, you will need your wits, team work, and a lot of critical thinking…This event will start at 10:30 am, but you will be back in plenty of time for the President’s reception.  Transportation and lunch will be provided.

Monday, July 23

Payette Lake Cruise: Enjoy a visit to McCall, a friendly little resort town situated on the southern shore of Payette Lake, near the center of the Payette National Forest. This trip starts with a bus ride along the scenic Payette River to the town of McCall, where you will board the “Idaho” cruise ship and take a two-hour tour of the lake.  The tour will leave Boise at 8 am, and return by 4 pm.  Lunch and transportation are included.

Boise Hawks baseball game:  Travel to Hawks Memorial Stadium just a few miles from the conference center to enjoy a Northwest League matchup between the Hawks and their perennial rivals the Everett Aquasox.  The first pitch occurs at 7:15 pm, so we will board a van at 6:30 pm to reach the stadium in time to take our seats along the third base line for a nice summer evening of baseball.

Pedals & Pints bike bar:   If your not interested in baseball, how about a scenic tour from 6 to 8 pm around downtown Boise on bike that also doubles as a bar?  Riders pedal the bike bar around town, stopping at various pubs, breweries and restaurants to sample local suds and fare. Craft beer, good food, and local events are just a few of the things you'll experience. And as a bonus, the safe, fun, and knowledgeable drivers will ensure that your tour is a memorable experience.  Attendance for this event is limited, so be sure to sign up early!

Thursday, July 26

Wine and Hops Agriculture tour:  The Treasure Valley of Western Idaho and Eastern Oregon is one of the most diverse agricultural production regions in the United States due to its dry climate, warm summer days combined with cool nights, and long frost-free season.  This region has long been known for production of seed crops (Such as alfalfa, sweet corn, onions and carrots) that make their way to fields around world.  More recently this area is becoming known for producing bountiful crops of hops used in brewing beer, and world-class wines in the Snake River Valley AVA.  Join us for a look at some of the unique crops grown in this region, including lunch at a local winery and tour stops highlighting production practices for hops, seed crops, and mint.  We will leave the hotel conference center on an air-conditioned bus promptly at 9 am, and return by 4 pm.

Payette River raft trip:  If you are more into whitewater, then join us on a trip down the Main Fork of the Payette River with Cascade Raft Company.  This adventure starts at 8:30 am with a short bus ride from Boise to Horseshoe Bend.  After checking in at the Cascade Raft River Center, we will take a quick drive upstream to put-in location at Banks, Idaho, the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Payette. Your guide staff will equip everyone with lifejackets, paddles, and safety information before you start the 8-mile trip back to the river center.  This trip has something for everyone, with playful rapids, splashy whitewater and time for swimming, relaxing and floating. Once back at the main headquarters you will enjoy a catered lunch before returning back to Boise.
