Annual Advanced Imaging Methods Workshop
January 25-27, 2017

CRL-Molecular Imaging Center (UC Berkeley)
Now in it’s 14
year, the Advanced Imaging Methods Workshop (AIM) is one of the largest light microscopy conferences on the west coast. Started in 2003 to introduce biological researchers to the possibility of fluorescent lifetime imaging, AIM now includes sessions on many cutting-edge techniques and their applications in biology and medicine. Topics this year, in addition to FLIM, will include PLIM, adaptive optics, super resolution, lightsheet imaging, computational imaging, and integrative biological imaging.
AIM is a full 3-day event with talks from internationally-renowned
researchers from a wide variety of fields, including biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and optics. Past speakers have included 5 Nobel Laureates: Roger Tsien, WE Moerner, Stephen Hell, Eric Betzig, and Steven Chu.
In addition to invited talks, AIM also includes a vendor show with demonstrations on-site, off-site visits to the CRL MIC and other campus facilities, as well as a popular poster session with beer and wine in the Julia Morgan Room at the Berkeley City Club. Light breakfast, sit-down lunch, coffee breaks, and evening receptions allow for plenty of interactions among participants.
New this year!
We are adding 2 new components to AIM this year. The first is an
for those wanting to learn about the basics of some of the primary topics of the workshop. There will be three educational sessions: fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM), Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET), and adaptive optics (AO). This will take place on Tuesday, January 24th, 2 – 5p, and is available as a separate registration item and cost, and will include a coffee and snack break. Space is limited, so register today!
The second new component is a Discussion Section on Integrative Biology, which will be an interactive brain-storming session led by Manfred Auer and several other leaders in various imaging modalities. This session will be on Friday, January 27
, and all attendees are encouraged to participate. We will conclude AIM with an evening celebration.
