A number of conditions can lead to esthetically unacceptable dentitions like dental caries, discoloration, dental trauma, early loss of teeth, misalignment and any abnormality of shape, size and color. Today we have a large number of solutions available for esthetic problems in pediatric dentistry. But the biggest dilemma is: How to choose what is best for a particular patient and that situation.

This course provides an evidence based treatment modality for breathing re-education as a part of myofunctional therapy. Most patients who suffer from Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) are mouth breathers. Beyond leading to altered oral rest posture and altered craniofacial growth there are many co-morbidities that may be present with mouth breathing such as rhinitis, sleep disordered breathing, asthma, COPD, allergies and others.

7:00-9:00am    "Take a Breath: Airway Influences on Dental Facial Development"

Many significant growth and developmental milestones occur during our first 18 months of life. You will learn how proper breathing is essential to children's health., development, and educational success. Dr. Samson will discuss early detection and correction of airway problems to optimize this fundamental and critical physiology. Airway evaluation will be discussed, as well as the use of precision diagnostic technologies and methodologies.

7:00-8:00am      "Pediatric Sleep Disordered Breathing and Maxillofacial Development: The Impact of Restricted Tongue Mobility (Tongue-Tie)"

This presentation is a brief overview of the importance of nasal breathing and quality sleep for the overall health of a pediatric patient, and will further expand to demonstrate how myofunctional, dental, and ENT treatment modalities can be coordinated to optimize pediatric maxillofacial growth and development.

Also, join attendees each afternoon 4:00-6:00pm for apres ski and informal chats.

    Changes / Cancellations / Refund Requests must be submitted in writing and received in the SWSPD office via fax (812-923-2900), or email (michelle.e.jacobi@gmail.com), on or before January 10, 2018.

    Full refund, less a $50 per person administrative fee, will be issued for cancellations received by January 10, 2018.No refunds will be issued for cancellations received thereafter. Refunds will be processed after the meeting.
