Map and Directions

USAID in collaboration with bilateral and multilateral donors, NGOs, foundations, private sector partners, academic researchers, and implementing organizations, is catalyzing a new international collaborative effort focused on Mobiles for Education for Development (m4Ed4Dev).  USAID and its partners will host an international symposium building on a series of seminars and round tables in this area  working towards the formation of a m4Ed4Dev alliance to explore cutting edge intersections between mobiles (broadly defined to include mobile phones, tablets, e-readers and other mobile devices), education and development, and to promote collective knowledge sharing.

The m4Ed4Dev Symposium will focus on potential areas where mobile technology can help achieve education strategy goals with a particular focus in two core areas: literacy and on-demand access to materials, and improved education data for education system strengthening. This event is designed to bring together a variety of high level stakeholders each bringing their own expertise to the discussion of how mobile technology can be successfully integrated into future programming and initiatives. The Symposium will complement USAID's Global Education Workshop taking place the following week.

This two-day meeting will provide an opportunity to:

Engage leading thinkers and practitioners in the area of mobiles (broadly defined to include mobile phones, tablets, e-readers and other mobile devices) for development;

Draw from existing evidence and results to guide current and future initiatives;

Showcase promising practices in current projects, pilots and evaluations;

Discuss effective uses of mobiles for reading, education data and delivering education in complex educational environments;

Inspire future innovation by catalyzing research; and

Spur the formation of an m4Ed4Dev alliance.

The Call for Proposals closed on June 13, 2011.  Thank you for your submissions!
