The Solar Mounting Training Conference (SOMO™) is the first-ever gathering of the industry’s most outstanding solar mounting manufacturers, managers and installers. Hosted by S-5! and Solar Power World, this three-day event will be the preeminent opportunity for individuals and companies to meet, share and understand the best in solar mounting practices.

We have invited the premier roof and ground mount manufacturers across a variety of mounting solutions to join us in providing the latest and most advanced solar installation training. Days will be filled with workshops, training courses and presentations; nights offer social events and opportunities to explore our incredible accommodations as well as the city beyond.

Cost is $299 per person for full conference access and attendance to the Day 2 and Day 3 sessions: Lunch and cocktails included. For an additional one-time cost of $49 each, attendees have access to all workshops offered on Day 1.

The Reducing Roof Penetration with Shared-Rail Racking Systems course is designed to provide the participants with different solar racking systems and installation methods and a comparison of the systems. It will also focus on utilization of shared rail systems for reduction of roof penetrations. Starting with a brief introduction to all the different types of metal roofing and the do's and don'ts when working on a metal roof to the best practices when doing a direct attach installation or using a rack or rail on a metal roof. Identfying Roof Types for Proper Solar Installation

This section reviews three principles of Low Sloped commercial roof structures. There are many types of roofs that are placed on commercial buildings and most are not capable of receiving a ballasted solar racking system. Being able to identify what type of roof is on a building prior to designing or placing a particular solar racking system it is beneficial for the solar integrator and roofing contractor to work together in order to maintain written warranty on the roof. Roofs keep buildings dry and functional allowing tenants to make money by protecting inventory and assets. Leaks cause damage to equipment, inventory and assets. The placement of inappropriate solar racking, ballast or penetrations may void the roof warranty. There are roofing anchors that are approved by most roofing manufacturers and it is good to know what products when applied by the trained roofing contractor particular to the type and brand being installed will be accepted by the manufacturer and maintain a valid warranty.Solar rooftop systems provide an environmentally friendly way to utilize green energy and provide electricity at a lower cost. However, most rooftops cannot support the weight of ballasted solar systems. In addition, ballasted solar systems have been shown to contribute to premature roof system failure, which costs the roof owner money in repairs and discourages our community from implementing rooftop solar.
