El CAMINO de SANTIAGO: Walking Workshop & Somatic Pilgrimage

We will traverse a special, to-the-coast stage of the Camino: the Finisterre – Muxia Way (also known as the Pagan's Way). Finisterre ("End of the Earth") has been called by poet David Whyte "the place where ground turns to ocean; the place where your present turns into the future." 

The Finisterre – Muxia Way  is a unique route that features: 
- good route markings
- flowers in May
- good weather with possible rain
- other pilgrims of all ages and nationalities
- modestly challenging walking distance each day, with longer days to start the journey
- the option to take a full or part-day off at any time by shuttling to the next destination
- arrival to the Atlantic ocean at Finisterra ("End of the Earth")
- varied landscape: countryside, villages, hamlets, combination of paths, lanes, tracks and tarmac (paved) roads
- rural architecture, Romanesque churches, and more.


Take all or part of a day off at any time by taking readily-available local taxis to the next destination.
- May 15: Meet at Madrid-Barajas Airport (arrive by 11am at the latest), for the 12pm group-shuttle to Lugo. At Lugo: introduction, orientation, dinner and overnight.
- May 16: Ground transfer from Lugo to Santiago. Stage Santiago-Negreira 13 miles/21km; dinner and overnight.
- May 17: Stage Negreira-Olveiroa 19 miles/31km. Transfer back to Negreira, dinner and overnight.
- May 18: Transfer to Olveiroa. Stage Olveiroa-Cee 11 miles/18km, dinner and overnight.
- May 19: Stage Cee-Fisterra 10 miles/16km, dinner and overnight.
- May 20: Stage Fisterra-Lires 9 miles/14km, dinner and overnight.
- May 21: Stage Lires-Muxía 11 miles/17km, dinner and overnight.
- May 22: Ground transfer to approx. 6 miles/10km outside Santiago. Walk into Santiago; dinner, overnight.
- May 23: Final day at Santiago; group debrief and wrap-up; leisure time; overnight.
- May 24: Workshop ends after breakfast. (Travel at your leisure to Santiago airport for affordable flights to Madrid or other European destinations; or, on to the BodyWisdom Conference; or stay longer in Santiago).

Typical Daily Schedule: (details TBD and subject to change)

- Breakfast at B&B.
- 9am: 60-90 min small-group mini-workshop (rotating faculty and group members)
- Walking, with workshop practice and application en route.
- Option of walking with the English-speaking guide.
- Picnic lunch, rest.
- Walking; alternate time for small group meeting.
- Option of walking with the English-speaking guide.
- Arrive destination B&B.
- Small-group recap and debrief before dinner;
- Dinner (usually 8:30-9pm)
- Socializing, relaxing, bed.

Topics and Course Content:

- Daily small-group on-the-move mini-workshops with individual faculty, interspersed with brief large-group meetings at the destination venues, and a final day in Santiago.
- Time for application, practice, and supervision while on el Camino. 
- An English-speaking guide for info about el Camino.

The faculty will each present on their areas of interest. Participants will have the option to work with several (tho perhaps not all) presenters. Specific mini-workshop topics will be posted here as they are confirmed. 

Optional fees:

- Single (private) room ($450 additional; limited availability)
- Taxi to the next destination for all or part of a day off (est. 17-20 €/taxi, cap. 4 passengers) 

Fine print:

- A minimum $250 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your space.
- Transported luggage is limited to one piece of 44 lbs (20kg) per person. 
- No massage table or equipment is required. Although material presented will be relevant to hands-on bodywork (and some hand-on work will be included), the primary focus will be on movement, awareness, and learning.
- Number of CE/CPD/CAMT credits will vary by options chosen. We estimate 1.5-2 hours of instruction will be available each day, for an estimated total of 12 to 21 credits possible. More info available closer to departure. 
- Included meals: 9 B&B breakfasts, picnic lunches on most walking days (a few lunches will be on your own), 9 dinners at the B&Bs or local restaurants. Some accommodation for special dietary needs is possible; please contact us about any specific needs in advance.
- A partner, spouse or family member who is not professionally trained may be able to attend, and are approved on a case-by-case basis. We do require that everyone (including any non-professional companions) plan to participate fully in the entire class schedule (on occasion, as an observer, when material taught might require prior professional training), and all group activities.
