PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The 2018 International ClubRoot Workshop runs Tuesday, August 7 to Thursday, August 9 at the Sutton Place Hotel in Edmonton. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, followed by poster set-up and breakfast.

The objective of the 2018 International CLUBROOT Workshop is to cultivate complement research globally and to advance clubroot management through the collaborative efforts of the international scientific community.

Day 1 features sessions on genetics and breeding, genomics and host-pathogen interactions.

The Icebreaker Welcome Reception follows the first day of meetings and provides additional time for discussion and networking. A dedicated poster session will be held during the reception.

Day 2 focuses on epidemiology, clubroot resistance, and disease management providing insight and opportunities that will deliver value. The program format transitions nicely into the afternoon tour of the Crop Diversification Centre North (CDC North), an applied research station with a one-of-a-kind clubroot pathotype nursery.

An awesome barbecue is being planned at the University of Alberta Botanical Gardens. Tours of the extensive gardens are being provided by staff.

Day 3 looks at ways the canola industry can mitigate clubroot in canola; to increase yield, profitability and sustainability while reducing production risk. Key addresses will explore opportunities in canola production and, through partnerships with growers, researchers and industry, identify research that will provide scientific rationale for best management practices. An exciting feature of this day is a tour of field trials of clubroot resistance varieties and clubroot management treatments such as liming. There is an optional farm tour/barbecue planned for after the field tour.
