Moment Mastery: How to Maximize Learning and Engagement

Everything happens in the moment from autopilot responses to awesome outcomes. The more aware we are of our input, the better chance of great decision making, communication and engagement as the output.

I have had a fortunate window into people’s successes and transformations via Outward Bound programs, counseling and coaching. The experience is important but more critical is the learning and transference of the self-knowledge. How can the individual use that information for further individual and team growth?

Through the use of an experiential exercise participants will look at their automatic reactions and the consequence on team engagement. We will have participants and observers to help process the experience, examining the impacts on engagement. Participants will examine their responses to an experience where their initial expectations don’t match the external results.

The activity will be processed using slides, videos and discussions highlighting neuroscience reactions and learnings.

Key takeaways:

1.    A Moment Mastery tool will be taught as a key strategy for more presence

2.    Understanding how emotional reaction lower IQ points for problem solving

3.    How autopilot reactions can impact engagement

4.    Emotional Intelligence tips for how to be your best in critical moments

5.    The value of reflection and changing perceptions

6.    Coaching tools to help process the learning experiences

Action Learning Fishbowl
When I first discovered action learning and worked with Reg Revans in the early 1990’s, I realized that I had discovered a very powerful tool, but one that needed more structure in order to work more consistently and successfully. My most significant addition to the action learning process was the action learning coach. Over the past 25 years, I have continued to develop and strengthen the role, importance, and skills of the action learning coach.

In this demonstration session, I will seek to provide insights and answers to the following questions: What are the most powerful interventions that a coach can make? How do you determine which questions to ask? How do you develop 2nd and 3rd levels of questions and learning? How do you handle mistakes that you might make as a coach? How do you keep improving your coaching skills? What is the thinking and planning process while you are coaching?
