Renew friendships and make new business contacts at our 2010 welcome reception (Second floor, Orleans business center).

6-8:30 p.m. Brick-and-mortar retailer networking event
Retailers will meet in a reception setting to share their personal goals for the Summit, and discuss the industry’s challenges and opportunities.  During this segment, retailers will work together to prioritize their “wish lists’’ for 2010 and beyond – and this information will be shared as a central element of Monday morning’s business session.  Retailers will also elect their representatives for several program segments. This is a must-attend event for brick-and-mortar retailer store owners and employees. 

Monday, April 12 :: "Issues"

8:15 a.m.  ** Earlybird EXTRA ** Driving sales via social media. 
By popular demand, we’ve created an “Earlybird EXTRA’’ session to provide additional value for early risers.  Monday’s session  will focus on social media strategies for business of all sizes.  Chris Carlin, sports marketing manager at Upper Deck, will lead the discussion.

 

8:15 a.m.  ** Distributor EXTRA:  Survey results
Summit co-host Gary Brison will release the results of his distributor survey, and will provide action points & opportunity paths for wholesale distributors.  This session is exclusive to wholesale distributors.  Location:  Orleans Boardroom, 2nd floor.

9 a.m.:  Welcome message :: Kevin Isaacson
The Summit host will share the day’s agenda, and provide updates from Sunday night’s retailer networking event.

9:15 a.m. Small-Group Solutions, Session No. 1

Attendees will participate in aggressive, open discussion with other industry partners on key issues.  This session is the first of five 50-minute discussions during Monday’s business session.

10:15 a.m. 10 Key Questions :: Adam Martin
In this unique Q&A format, Adam Martin of Dave & Adam’s Card World will address 10 unscripted questions posed by Summit host Kevin Isaacson.

Our targeted discussion series continues.

11:45 a.m.:  Brick-and-mortar store lunch meeting.
 A special lunch gathering has been scheduled for all brick-and-mortar stores attending the 2010 Industry Summit.  Please note:  This event is limited to brick-and-mortar stores only.  Other attendees are encouraged to schedule lunch meetings at one of the Orleans’ 11 restaurants.

8:15 a.m.  Earlybird EXTRA :: Throw a party, make $30,000
California-based retailer Ken Brison shares the recipe for his birthday party business, which generates $30,000 in store profit annually and brings thousands of area youths (and their parents) into his store.

9:10 a.m.  Retail Ambassador Award presentation, hosted by UltraPRO
The first-ever recipients of the Retail Ambassador Award will be announced at this time by Mary Sarandon, UltraPRO executive vice president, and Janyce Mabra of Tristar, representing the Summit’s HONORS committee.   We’ll accept nominations for one (1) additional AMBASSADOR award, voted on exclusively by Summit attendees.

9:20 a.m. Guest speaker:  Marty Appel, 42 years in and around baseball
The New York Times best-selling author of "MUNSON: The Life and Death of a Yankee Captain,'' will share tales and observations from 42 years in and around baseball and the collecting hobby, culled from his days as Yankees PR Director and Emmy-award winning TV producer, his time as Topps spokesman, columnist for Sports Collectors Digest and publicist for hobby clients.  Marty’s appearance is sponsored by Kit Young Cards (www.kityoung.com)

Evan Kaplan of Major League Baseball Players Association will be interviewed by Adam Larry of the National Hockey League Players Association 

10:45 a.m. 10 Key Questions :: Lloyd Kee and Daryl McKay
Our unique Q&A format continues. McKay (Sports Images) and Kee (GTS) will address questions posed by Edmonton retailer Wayne Wagner, who will explore the challenges of wholesale distribution marketplace and the different approaches taken by Sports Images, GTS and other wholesalers.

11:15 a.m.  Small-Group Solutions :: Action Plans
Attendees will work together to prioritize the results of Monday’s group meetings. Their objective:  Creating specific, targeted action plans for industry improvement.  These plans will be released and discussed during Wednesday’s business session.

Your hosts for this special lunch event are NHL Enterprises, NHL Players Association, Panini America and Upper Deck.  Please join us in Salons K&L for lunch and a special presentation.

1-4 p.m.  INDUSTRY PRODUCT SHOWCASE
Attendees will meet executives from leading companies, get a first look at upcoming products and promotions, and even have the opportunity to write orders for new and/or specially priced product. Participating companies include:  Tristar Productions, Upper Deck, Global Authority, Framing Life, Diamond Collectibles, UltraPRO, Beckett Media, Sports Images, National Ethnic Heritage Foundation, Razor Entertainment Group, Dreamstar.

4:30 p.m.. Brick-and-mortar store event :: Topps Company
Topps executives Mark Sapir, John Buscaglia, Clay Luraschi and David Reel  will lead a 75-minute discussion with brick-and-mortar store owners.  Please note that this event is limited to brick-and-mortar stores only.

6 p.m.  Trade Night at the Industry Summit

Salon K&L: Hobby shop owners and other attendees are encouraged to bring single cards to trade with other attendees.  Participants are encouraged to bring pre-priced autographed, relic and rookie cards in appropriate holders to provide the best opportunity for easy and profitable trades. 8:15 a.m.  Earlybird EXTRA :: How many product releases is ‘just right’?
Our panelists will debate the impact of recent licensing changes on product release schedules, product quality, collector response and sales volume, with a goal of helping industry players maximize the opportunities available now in and in the future.  Moderator:  Adam Larry.  Panelists will include Brian Gray, Karvin Cheung and Allan Levine.

9:10  Retail Ambassador Award presentation, hosted by UltraPRO

Discussion leaders will present their group’s conclusions, recommendations and action points.  A panel of retailers, elected by their peers during Sunday night's retailer-exclusive meeting, will provide thoughts & commentary on the proposals.   This segment provides a formal close to the 2010 Industry Summit.

10:30 a.m. 10 key questions :: Bill Sutherland and Mike Fruitman
Our unique interview format concludes with back-to-back Q&As. Bill Sutherland, database pricing manager for Beckett Media, will address 10 questions from noted New York-based retailer Lisa Stellato.  Our series concludes with 10 questions for Colorado retailer Mike Fruitman, posed by Press Pass VP DJ Kaczmierczak.

11:15 a.m.  Inside the Mind of a Manufacturer.
Victor Shaffer, EVP/business development of Cartamundi USA and former president/CEO of Press Pass, will provide a revealing look at the decision-making processes facing today’s trading card manufacturers.

1 p.m. Retailer Idea Exchange:  Your best promotions, practices and profit generators
This action-packed segment is open to all Vegas Summit attendees. Each attendee will be provided up to 5 minutes to explain their best promotion, business practice and/or profit generator to the assembled group;  our moderators, Rob Veres of Burbank Sports Cards and Jeff DeGraw of Matt’s Sports Cards, will enforce the 5-minute time limit and capture each creative concept on whiteboard.  After everyone has contributed, participants will vote on the best ideas – the winners will receive prizes donated by Summit corporate sponsors.

2:30 p.m.  Individualized input:  One-on-one business consulting
Industry leaders will be available for one-on-one consulting sessions.  Among the participants: Mike Baker, Global Authentication, card grading basics; Rob Veres,  maximizing profit on a per-card basis; Wayne Wagner, merchandising and store display; Missy Isaacson, business computing solutions (protecting your data); Jeff DeGraw, driving store traffic through unique, consistent promotions; Ginny Brison, investment options for independent business owners; Daryl McKay, unique inventory options.
