Tuesday, October 30 (Recommended arrival day):

  • Transfer on your own from the airport to your Hiroshima hotel (see the “Accommodation” tab above)
  • Conference registration for all delegates, regardless of where they are staying, will take place in the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel lobby from 12:00 noon until 5:00pm

 Wednesday, October 31 (Conference begins):  

  • Conference registration continues at the International Conference Center Hiroshima
  • Morning plenary sessions, with coffee break, featuring FFI updates and speakers and local entertainment
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon workshops with coffee break
  • Dinner on your own followed by a Japanese-style karaoke party at the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel

Thursday, November 1:

  • Plenary session with keynote speakers and coffee break, then morning workshops at the International Conference Center Hiroshima
  • Lunch
  • Visit and ceremony at the Hiroshima Monument and Peace Park, guided tour of Peace Memorial Museum and an evening lantern ceremony on the Motoyasu river bank.
  • Dinner on your own

Friday, November 2:

  • Closing ceremonies with entertainment and awards at the ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel
  • Optional day excursions highlighting the best of Hiroshima and her surroundings (see "Options" tab above)
  • Gala banquet with special sake ceremony and dancing


Saturday, November 3:

  • Depart for home or participate in our overnight Zazen and Buddhism experience at Taikoji Temple, or a bus tour for the fateful Peace Bell (see "Options" tab)

Sunday, November 4:

  • Depart for home or continue on with an optional four-night homestay in one of 12 locations around Japan.


Registration: Please remember to stop by to pick up your name badge, conference program and gift bag at the ANA Hotel on October 30 or the International Conference Center Hiroshima on October 31. Your name badge will be your pass to all the conference events for which you have paid.

Individual Events: The gala banquet is included in the price of your registration fee, however you may contact Debbie Powell at dpowell@thefriendshipforce.org if you would like to purchase additional tickets for the gala only for ¥7800. All other events, options, meals and sessions are for those attending the full conference and are not available for separate purchase.

Post-Conference Homestays:  We invite you to extend your time in Japan by participating in an optional four-night homestay beginning on Sunday, November 4 (don't forget to book your extra hotel night after the conference ends!) The homestay cost is ¥9000 (transport cost additional) and hosting is offered by Friendship Force clubs located in the cities/regions of Ehime, Gifu, Koriyama, Kumamoto, Miyagi, Yamanashi, Nagasaki, Saitama, Sapporo, Western Tokyo. If you prefer a specific homestay location, you may indicate your first and second choices on the registration form, however specific requests cannot be guaranteed.  You will be advised of your homestay location within two weeks of registration. Please contact the homestay coordinator, Maryam Jordan, at mjordan@thefriendshipforce.org, if you have specific questions or information about your homestay after the conference.

Payment Instructions

  • CONFERENCE FEE ¥27,000. All conference pricing is in Japanese Yen. Optional activities require additional charges.

    PREFERRED PAYMENT for conference registration and optional events is by credit card
    (American Express, Visa, MasterCard). If you do not have a credit card you may use one of the following options:

    a) To wire your payment directly to the Friendship Force account below select the "wire transfer" option at the end of the online registration process. Please identify your payment with the words "2012 Conference" and your first and last name. Please also include the ¥2000 bank processing charge (approximately $25 USD) so that FFI will receive the full and correct amount for your registration -

    b) To send a check in U.S. dollars (payable to "Friendship Force International") select the "pay by check" option at the end of the online registration form. Then contact Debbie Powell at dpowell@thefriendshipforce.org for the dollar amount and check payment instructions.

    c) To pay into the Friendship Force Japan Bank Account (Japanese Delegates Only). Please select "Japan Account" as your payment method at the end of the online registration process. Then send your name and the amount due to Tsuguyo Ishii at support@friendshipforce.jp to receive payment instructions.

    Your conference registration will not be finalized until full payment has been received and successfully processed by FFI. 

    Cancellation and refund policy:
    • For cancellation prior to August 30 there will be a ¥7500 cancellation fee per person plus any applicable tour company penalties.
    • After August 30, no refunds will be made. Travel insurance is strongly recommended. (US and Canadian delegates may book travel insurance here through FFI's preferred insurance provider TravelGuard. TravelGuard's normal rates are discounted for Friendship Force participants.)
