Energize Your Classroom Workshop

7:30a.m. Registration & Continental Breakfast
Check-in and enjoy the continental breakfast. Complete workshop pre-test.

8:00 a.m. Welcome and Introductions
Meet your fellow participants. Review goals and objectives for the workshop. Discuss Kentucky Core Content standards and correlations to NEED curriculum. Learn more about the KY Energy Management for Schools programs. View the NEED Website and NEED Student Energy Polls.

9:00 a.m. Step 1: Science of Energy
Learn about the forms of energy and energy transformations while experimenting with the NEED Science of Energy kit. Hands-on demonstrations that students use to teach themselves and others about forms of energy and energy transformations.

10:15 a.m. Step 2: Energy Source Match Game, Energy Expo and Energy Roundup 
Participants learn about the major sources of energy used in the United States through a variety of NEED activities

11:30 a.m. Step 3: Electric Connections, Energy Flows and Energy Ball
Participants rank the ten sources of energy used to generate electricity in the U.S and demonstrate energy transformations that occur during the generation of electricity.


12:45 p.m. Step 4: Transportation: Pretzel Power
Participants will determine the energy efficiency of different types of transportation and benefits of transportation alternatives.

1:15 p.m. Step 5: Efficiency & Conservation: Monitoring & Mentoring
Using activities module, students and teachers can reduce energy costs for their schools. Using the tools included in NEED’s Monitoring and Mentoring kit, learn how your classroom can become a laboratory for students to discover ways to reduce energy consumption in their school. You’ll also be introduced to NEED’s Blueprint for Student Energy Teams.

2:00 p.m. Step 6: Synthesis & Reinforcement: Energy Squares
Based on tic-tac-toe, Energy Squares participants will ‘test’ their knowledge of energy sources and energy-related topics.

2:20 p.m. Youth Awards
Learn more about NEED’s Youth Awards Program, a central component of NEED’s student leadership program, recognizing students who plan and facilitate energy education projects in their schools and communities.

3:00 p.m. Step 7: Evaluation
Complete post-test, evaluations and order forms for NEED materials. Distribution of reimbursement forms.

3:30 p.m. Adjourn
