Plantation & Swamp Tour (with lunch)
Travel to Louisiana's "Bayou Country" and "Plantation Country" in today's special swampland and plantation tour. First, you will experience up close Houmas House Plantation and Gardens. This tour is so much more than just a tour of a grand antebellum estate. Experience the southern splendor of "The Sugar Palace" when you step into 16 rooms filled with period antiques and Louisiana artwork. Enjoy 12 lush acres of gardens, ponds and a majestic live oak alley, enjoy the breeze off the Mississippi and navigate through the shadows of ancient oaks. After the tour you'll enjoy an authentic cajun style lunch at Houmas House.

After lunch, you'll travel to swampland where you will experience up close the marvels of Louisiana's mystical swamps and bayous in a unique swamp boat tour. As your swamp boat glides through the waters, gently breaking the tran­quility of the ancient swamp, you will pass exotic tropical plants and wildlife unique to the Louisiana wetlands. You will also see the majestic herons, nutria, and large turtles as they only can be seen in the serenity of their environment. And, the swamp's favorite son, the alligator, will be witnessed in his glory, easing quietly through the murky, cypress-stained waters. Following the swamp tour, you will board the coach for your return to the Hyatt Regency. 

This tour is an all-day event, please dress casual and comfortable with good walking shoes ,and bring your sunscreen, sunglasses, and alligator repellent!

Golf at Lakewood Golf Course with Lunch

Lakewood is host to the 2012 U.S. Open Qualifier! Award-winning golf course architect Ron Garl preserved the character of the original course, while upgrading the 18-hole, 7,002 yards, par 72 course with modernized fairways, tee boxes and greens - new improvements to an old favorite. Garl, who has designed golf courses all over the world, added strategy and fun with new fairway contouring and unique bunkering. The 444-yard "Fire in the Hole" sets a new standard for bunkers. The new 18th hole includes traps in the shape of flames set in red sand, a tribute to New Orleans Firefighters. It is the only one of its kind in the golfing world. Past Lakewood golfers will appreciate the improvements to the course and construction of a world-class practice facility to help sharpen your short game. Lakewood Golf Club offers 7,002 yards of championship golf and the area's only short game practice facility.

Meet down in the Hotel Lobby Registration area no later than 8:45 am.
Golf Club rental will be $40/person (not included).  We will contact you by September 1st to see if you need clubs.  If so, we'll collect a credit card at that time just to reserve them.  Nothing will be charged to you until the day of the event.

Keynote Presentation, Dr. Nido Qubein

Dr. Nido Qubein came to the United States as a teenager with little knowledge of English, no contacts and only $50 in his pocket. His life has been an amazing success story. 
                 
                                              
As an educator, he is president of High Point University, an undergraduate and graduate institution with 4,500 students from over 51 countries. He has authored two dozen books and audio programs distributed worldwide. His foundation provides scholarships to 48 deserving young people each year. To date the Qubein Foundation has granted more than 700 scholarships, worth over six million dollars. 
 
As a business leader, he is chairman of Great Harvest Bread Company with 220 stores in 43 states. He serves on the boards of several national organizations including BB&T (a Fortune 500 company with $175 billion-dollars in assets), the La-Z-Boy Corporation (one of the largest and most recognized furniture brands worldwide) and Dots Stores (a chain of fashion boutiques with more than 400 locations across the country.)

As a professional speaker, Dr. Qubein has received many distinctions. Toastmasters International named him Top Business and Commerce Speaker and awarded him the Golden Gavel Medal. He is the youngest person ever inducted in the International Hall of Fame and is the founder of the prestigious National Speakers Foundation in Phoenix, Arizona. He is in great demand to speak to business and professional groups around the world each year.

He has been the recipient of many honors including the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, the Horatio Alger Award for Distinguished Americans, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine (North Carolina's highest civic award), Sales and Marketing International's Ambassador of Free Enterprise, Citizen of the Year and Philanthropist of the Year in his home city of High Point, North Carolina, induction into the Global Society for Outstanding Business Leadership, and dozens more.
