Close Quarters Powerboat Handling*
Presented by the Recreational PowerBoating Association
Hone your docking skills and practice close quarters maneuvering aboard outboard powered vessels with a professional certified instructor from the Recreational PowerBoating Association.  Participants will learn the fundamentals of boat control in confined spaces including maneuvering close to fixed objects and other boats, backing down in a straight line in a narrow channel, and turning around in very tight spaces. Sessions conducted daily during the boat show.  You may select from the available sessions during the registration process. Class size is extremely limited so advance, online registration is recommended.  Participants may also sign up at the Discover Boating Resource Center on a space available basis.

Advanced Docking Experience*
Presented by the Recreational PowerBoating Association
The ability to confidently maneuver a boat in tight spaces is the hallmark of capable skipper.  This hands-on learning event covers advanced, precision boat control techniques including managing wind and current in close quarters situations, momentum control, strategies for maneuvering in confined spaces and close to docks, piers, pilings and other vessels.  The class is ideal for experienced boaters as well as those who are thinking about moving up in boat size or class.

Open Water Powerboat Handling & Seamanship*
Presented by the Recreational PowerBoating Association
Helmsmanship - generally described as the ability to steer well - can’t be learned from a book or in a classroom.  In this clinic, each participant will take the helm and learn specific skills that are required of the competent boat operator including: handling waves and wakes safely, correct application of the navigation rules for meeting, crossing and overtaking, sound signals required by the Rules of the Road, passenger safety considerations and more.  This clinic is appropriate for skippers and crew of all experience levels.

*Helmsmanship participants must be at least 18 years of age.

Anchoring and Multi-Vessel Rafting Techniques*
Presented by the Recreational PowerBoating Association
Anchoring is an important seamanship skill that will help insure the safety of your vessel and increase boating enjoyment.  Class members will participate in hands on anchoring exercises and learn how to determine select the best location, calculate the correct “scope” of anchor rode to pay out, setting the anchor securely, retrieving the anchor and freeing a fouled anchor and strategies for anchoring in adverse/changing conditions.  In addition, each session will teach techniques for rafting up with other vessels at anchor.  This clinic is appropriate for skippers and crew of all experience levels.

Essential Boating Safety (Presented Dockside)
Presented by the Recreational PowerBoating Association
Airline pilots wouldn’t dream of taking off without performing a thorough pre-flight check of the aircraft.  In this session participants will learn how professional captains conduct a pre-departure, voyage-critical systems check; proper care and use of USCG required safety equipment, and how to conduct a passenger safety briefing.  For skippers and crew of all experience levels.  Participants will receive an RPBA laminated pre-departure check list and passenger safety briefing procedures outline.
