Have you been trying to catch an agent's eye?

Join us for the Agent Quick Queries event on Friday, May 2. Get written feedback and a 10-minute critique of your Agent Query Letter for your COMPLETED Middle Grade or Young Adult NOVEL (no nonfiction or picture books, please). These sessions are designed to be educational, face-to-face, and best of all, one-on-one.

Manuscript and Portfolio Critiques
mandatory Critique Application Form

Manuscript and portfolio critiques will take place Friday, May 2, between 2:30 and 5:30 pm, and Saturday, May 3, during workshop sessions. Each critique lasts 15 minutes

In order to register for a critique you must be a conference attendee. You must register through the online registration form for the conference before submitting materials for a potential critique slot.

You asked, we listened!

This year, you are NOT required to register for both Friday and Saturday of the conference in order to receive a critique; however, you MUST register for at least Saturday. Critiques will still be scheduled on both days.

Due to the complexity of the critique scheduling process, please note the following:

  • Attendees who register just for Friday will NOT be eligible for a critique.
  • Attendees who register just for Saturday (or just for Saturday/Sunday) will ONLY be eligible for a SATURDAY critique slot.
  • Attendees who register for BOTH Friday and Saturday, or for the ENTIRE conference, will be eligible for either a Friday OR Saturday critique slot, thus increasing their chances of actually obtaining a critique.
Since critique slots are limited, your submission does not guarantee a critique. Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, based on the availability and interests of the critique faculty.

Although we try our best to match submissions to critiquers, there is no guarantee that the highly qualified, experienced, and knowledgeable industry professional providing feedback on your submission will also be looking to represent or acquire books in your format or genre.

Portfolio Showcase
mandatory Portfolio Showcase Release Form

FULL - waitlist only

The New England SCBWI is thrilled to once again present The Portfolio Showcase for Illustrators. This year the professional art directors will judge the Portfolio Showcase, with prizes awarded to one winner and two runners-up. In addition, Rich Michelson will choose an artist for the R. Michelson Gallery prize, which is inclusion in the annual Children's Book Illustration show in November.

On Friday night, May 2, from 7:00 pm to 8:45 pm the Portfolio showcase will be open for our specially invited art directors, editors, and agents from children’s publishing. Then from 8:45 pm to 10:00 pm the Portfolio showcase will be open to all attendees during the Agent/Editor/AD Meet and Greet.

Please note: You must register for BOTH Friday and Saturday of the conference in order to participate in the Portfolio Showcase

Illustration Challenge

FULL - waitlist only

Show how ‘Brave’ you are by entering the 2014 Illustration Challenge. Last year’s contest has morphed into a challenge (no fee, no judging). Your artwork will be displayed all day Saturday for Art Directors and Editors to see. This is a great portfolio building exercise and a wonderful (free!) promotional opportunity.

The Challenge:
In keeping with our theme, choose any passage from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, copyright 1899. A .pdf of the original book can be found on Google Books. (PLEASE don’t reference the movie. We’ll know if we see ruby slippers!)
