2016 International Emory
Global Health Case Competition
Connecting Students from Diverse Fields to
Address a Global Health Challenge

Who can participate in the International Emory Global Health Case Competition?
Graduate and undergraduate students enrolled at accredited universities are invited to participate. Teams should be comprised of four to six students, and at least three schools within your university must be represented. For example, 2014's winning team from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center was comprised of one engineering student, three medical students, and two business school students. Post-graduate and post-doctoral fellows are not eligible to participate.

How does a guest university apply?
Guest universities may apply to participate online between October 6-20, 2014. An APPLY NOW button will appear and go live on this website at 9:00 am EDT on October 6, 2014 and will remain live until 11:59 pm EDT on October 20, 2014.  Teams will be selected on a first come, first-served basis. Once your team has been accepted, every team member must update his or her application information by February 27, 2015. We will not make exceptions this year - we must have this information for each team member by this date. An UPDATE TEAM APPLICATION button will appear at the top of this page once the application period ends.

When will I be notified if my team is accepted?
You will receive immediate notification that your team's application has been received. We will alert you of your team's selection status by Tuesday, October 21, 2014.

If my team is not one of the 23 teams to register, will there be a waitlist?
Yes, your team will be contacted to confirm your interest in remaining on the waitlist.

What will be the cost involved for guest universities to participate?
If your team is selected to participate, you must submit a $500 application fee to us by December 15, 2014. We will provide most meals and lodging during your stay at Emory. Teams will be responsible for paying for their travel to and from Atlanta, GA. Because we will alert you of your team's selection status by October 21, this should give you ample time to collect and submit your application fee.

To whom do I send my application fee?
Please make your $500 application fee payable to the Emory Global Health Institute and send it to:

Roseanne Waters
Emory Global Health Institute
1599 Clifton Road, NE
Mailstop 1599-001-1AH
Atlanta, GA 30322

Do I need to have confirmed team members to apply?
No. Guest university teams can change individual participants up until February 27, 2015, at which time final participant information will be required. Once your team has been accepted to participate, you will have access to an online registration form  where all team members can enter personal information that we require in order to best host you and pay you should your team win a prize. The form will be found by clicking on the UPDATE TEAM APPLICATION button that will appear on this website on October 21, the day after the application period closes.

Required Application Information (for October 6-20 application period)
To apply as a guest university team, you will need the following information:

  • If your university is interested in being placed on a waiting list
  • Anticipated number of team members

Updating Your Team Application (October 21, 2014 - February 27, 2015)
If your university's team is selected to participate, you will need to update your team's application with required individual team member information by February 27, 2015. We cannot make exceptions to this deadline as we need individual team members' information by that time in order to plan the event. The Update Team Application will appear at the top of this page on October 21. This button will take you to an online registration form that will allow you to complete your application by providing required information for each individual on your team.

In addition to detailed individual team member information, we ask if your team plans to bring a mentor (faculty or staff member) from your university with you. If you do, please indicate that person's name and his or her interest in having dinner with Emory Global Health Institute staff members the evening of Friday, March 27, 2015.
