Professional Development Hours

An increasing number of professional engineering licensing organizations require members to pursue professional development on a formal basis. DFI is pleased to provide a general Certificate of Participation for all its technical programs. This certificate is accepted by most licensing boards and serves as documentation of your pursuit of continuing education credits. There are some states that may not accept the general DFI certificate. Attendees are responsible for determining whether or not DFI PDHs are accepted by their respective licensing board.

NEW YORK: Approved New York State (NYS) Professional Development Hours are sought for all DFI events from the Practicing Institute of Engineers. PDHs will be determined when approval is received. Those individuals requiring NYS approved hours must follow the guidelines and procedures requested by event management to qualify. The procedure typically includes the need to sign-in at the Registration Desk as proof of your attendance at the entire event. This procedure is subject to change. The estimated PDHs from the Practicing Institute of Engineers will be announced soon

FLORIDA: DFI is an approved provider of PDHs in the state of Florida. DFI's approval number is 4072. Registered professional engineers in Florida who wish to submit attendance at a DFI event as part of their Florida license renewal MUST include their Florida State P.E. License Number on their Registration Form. Each event is handled separately so registering for one event with your license number does not register you for other events for license renewal.

The estimated number of general PDHs for this event is 12.0 hours. Day 1 is 6.5 hours and Day 2 is 5.5 hours.

Please contact the DFI Headquarters at staff@dfi.org or 973-423-4030 prior to the event with questions you may have about earning professional development hours.

Information/Materials Required

Please submit the following items by Friday, July 15, 2016, or sooner. Click the links provided to download forms.

  • Draft of PowerPoint Presentation (Final, if ready. This is needed early for PDH* certification. See attached guidelines.)
  • 3 Quiz-Type Questions about the content of the presentation (multiple choice, fill-in the blank, etc.; answers not needed)
  • Presentation Release Form

You may continue to update your presentation and submit the final version by Friday, August 5, 2016. After this date, you must bring your presentation to the Speaker Preparation Meeting the morning of your presentation using a flash drive. The conference staff will load it to DFI’s laptop.

Please be aware of the importance of limiting commercial aspects in your presentation and to focus on technical features. DFI reserves the right to later not accept a presentation that is too commercial. Additionally, unless your organization is a not-for-profit entity, corporate logos may appear on the first and last presentation slide only. Reference the Presentation Guidelines for details.

Please email the DFI Events Team at speakers@dfi.org if you cannot adhere to these deadlines. Again, thank you for presenting at this event.

[Speakers, as a reminder DFI offers general PDHs as well as certification for licensees of New York and Florida. The presentations undergo review by the licensing bodies and contribute towards the required credits in those states. Missing presentations deprive attendees of the professional development hours they need. Please help your colleagues by adhering to these important guidelines.]
