About SGSF

The Southern Group of State Foresters is a non-profit organization consisting of State Foresters from across the South. We believe that strong, healthy forests are important to a stable economy in the South. Our forests, which are predominately owned by private individuals and families, are rarely recognized for the many benefits they offer. They improve the landscape, clean air and water, enhance recreational activities, shelter wildlife, and provide a renewable resource that supports daily existence.

The Southern Group of State Foresters consists of State Foresters from: Alabama, Arkansas, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Virginia.

Ex-officio members include the SGSF Executive Director and the following U.S. Forest Service members: Regional Forester for the Southern Region, Deputy Regional Forester for State and Private Forestry for the Southern Region, Director of the Southern Research Station, and Director of the International Institute of Tropical Forestry of the USDA Forest Service. An Executive Committee governs the SGSF.
