Karen H. Sousa, PhD, RN, FAAN, Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship
 
Dr. Sousa is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship at the College of Nursing.  As an outcomes researcher, she promotes Structural Equation Modeling as a method for cluster analysis, instrument development, and theory confirmation and construct validation.  Her research focus area is the determinants of HRQOL.
  • Developing/testing conceptual models
  • Developing/applying advanced statistical methods
  • Examining/analyzing health-care systems to understand and improve health-care outcomes



Paul Cook, PhD, Licensed Psychologist & Associate Professor 

Dr. Cook is a licensed psychologist with 15 years of experience in data analysis and has taught multivariate statistics and quantitative methods at the graduate/PhD level since 2000. He provides consultation to doctoral students on the statistical aspects of their research through his role as the Director of the College of Nursing Center for Nursing Research.




Sarah Schmiege, PhD, Statistician & Assistant Research Professor
Dr. Schmiege is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and serves as the statistician for the College of Nursing.  She has collaborated with faculty as the lead statistician on several grants.  She has consulted extensively on topics related to SEM and has experience applying it across a range of health-related studies. She focuses on statistical collaboration in health-promotion research, with expertise in:
  • Structural equation modeling (SEM), including exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis
  • Hierarchical modeling of clustered data
  • Longitudinal growth curve modeling
  • Latent variable mixture modeling
