“A Mixed Bag of Common Oral Lesions in Tots and Teens: Diagnostic Tips and Treatment Approaches”

4 CEUs
Contrary to popular belief, children develop a wide range of oral lesions with a steady frequency. Rapid growth, developing dentition, infectious diseases, traumatic injuries and congenital disorders account for the majority of oral lesions in this age group. Important visual and historical clues will be highlighted, along with a practical list of look-alikes, including new entities. When appropriate, a potential connection to a systemic disorder is emphasized. Handouts with helpful hints for managing symptomatic oral conditions are tailored just for the child.

Catherine Flaitz, DDS, MS, is professor and chair of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and Chief of Dentistry, Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  She participates on multiple editorial boards including Pediatric Dentistry, Journal of the American Dental Association, and Journal of Dentistry for Children.  Presently, she serves as the pediatric dental consultant for the Commission on Dental Accreditation and is the immediate past member of the Board of Trustees, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
