Susan Taylor, retired Editorial Director of ESSENCE Magazine, founded the National Cares Mentoring Movement with the goal of signing up more than one million people to become mentors. The National Cares Mentoring Movement, a coalition of national organizations – The Links, Incorporated; MENTOR; National Urban League; 100 Black Men in America, and the Y.W.C.A.– encourages African-American adults to serve as mentors for at-risk young people.
