2018 Speakers

Don Barden is a classically trained economist who earned his M.B.A. in Global Technology Management and International Business with an undergraduate B.B.A. in Economics and Finance. He is ABD with a Ph.D. in Finance. He resides in Atlanta Georgia and is fluent in international business affairs and technology. 

Don is an author, speaker, advisor and corporate executive, who specializes in corporate leadership, financial services and employee benefits sales. He is currently the owner and Managing Partner of the Perfect Plan Company, which is diversified into Financial Sales Consulting, Technology Staffing, TV, Radio and Leadership Training. His books are published in over 39 countries, and his firm employs over 300 people based in Atlanta and Birmingham.



Dr. Jed M. Best has been treating children with the highest quality dental care since 1981.  After, earning his dental degree from Case Western Reserve University, he went on to complete a pediatric dental residency at the University of Minnesota. An esteemed member of the dental community, Dr. Best is a published author, gives public lectures on children’s oral health, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is on the faculty of Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine; Case School of Dental Medicine and NYU. He is an active member in many leading dental organizations, including the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.



Marc Richard Moeller is the Executive Director and founding Board Chair of the Academy of Applied Myofunctional Sciences (AAMS). He is also the Managing Director of the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT), an institute that facilitates research and post-graduate education in myofunctional therapy.  Marc is an adjunct professor at the Dugoni School of Dentistry as a lecturer in myofunctional therapy.  He is also a fellow at the Stanford School of Medicine where his fellowship is in the Stanford Sleep Epidemiology Research Center and is focusing on myofunctional therapy and public health.  He comes to the field of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) with extensive experience as a senior executive in finance, building and bridging strategies across multinational financial conglomerates, specializing in joint-venture integration.  He feels fortunate to apply this experience as a public health advocate, building bridges in the interdisciplinary profession of myofunctional therapy and has spoken on the subject in 24 countries.




Dr. James D. Nickman graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1997 and obtained a Masters of Science degree in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Minnesota in 1999.

Dr. Nickman is the President of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is also a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, a fellow in the American College of Dentists, and a fellow in the International College of Dentists. Dr. Nickman is active in the Minneapolis District Dental Society, Minnesota Dental Association, and is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He is a past-president of the Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and has served on the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Nickman is active with St. Odilia’s Catholic Church. Dr. Nickman also contributes back to the community as the Pediatric Lead for the Minnesota Mission of Mercy, Healthy Smiles Healthy Children Foundation Dental Home Day, and volunteers for the annual Sharing and Caring Give Kids a Smile day.



Described as an educational entertainer, Gerry Samson completed pediatric dental residency at Emory University, 1979 under the and orthodontics at Northwestern University, 1981 under the direction of Dr. Hal Perry. Since that time Gerry has been in private orthodontic practice, is a Diplomat of The American Board of Orthodontics and a Fellow of The American College of Dentists. In addition to orthodontic private practice, Dr. Samson holds formal faculty appointments at 7 postgraduate programs, lectures extensively and reviews orthodontic mechanics articles submitted for publication to The Angle Orthodontist.  He was the invited guest Co-Editor of Seminars In Orthodontics: “Age Appropriate Orthodontics”, March and June, 2014 and author of the orthodontics mechanics chapter 2016 reference text book by Wiley Publications, “Recognizing and Correcting Developing Malocclusions: A Problem-Oriented Approaches to Orthodontics” – Prof. Eustáquio A. Araújo, Prof. Peter H. Buschang

 Gerry offers meaty clinical presentations spiced with a blend of biting wit, edgy humor, and substantially sauced with evidenced based literature. Always armed with unusually high quality hand out materials for seminar attendees, Gerry’s zany, brainy and engaging methods have made him one of today’s most popular educators.  Participants are certain to enjoy a unique educational, clinical experience that is both informative and motivating.


Dr. Keith Tam completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at University of Southern California. He went on to complete his pediatric residency at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. In 2012, he and Dr. Cottrell, his mentor, worked diligently to become board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Although Dr. Tam has completed his education and residency, he still strives to be a better practitioner. He continues to attend several continuing education courses/conventions including the AAPD, CSPD, and CPRC. Dr. Tam has become involved himself as an instructor for Kinder Krowns, a top-notch maker of zirconia crowns for pediatric patients.



Dr. Soroush Zaghi is a graduate of Harvard Medical School, UCLA Otolaryngology (ENT) residency, and Stanford Sleep Surgery Fellowship. He is very active in clinical research with over 60+ peer-reviewed research journal publications and is a recognized leader on advancing standards of care for tongue-tie surgery. He is now in practice in Los Angeles, CA in the United States through The Breathe Institute where the focus of his clinical practice and research efforts is on understanding the impact of tethered oral tissues on sleep-disordered breathing and maxillofacial development in children and as a risk factor for upper airway resistance syndrome and obstructive sleep apnea in adults.

    Doctor & staff full registrations include the Sunday evening Welcome Reception, ski races, and the Thursday Awards Reception and Banquet, as well as daily (M-F) coffee break and continuing education lectures from 7:00-9:00am. Also, join attendees each afternoon 4:00-6:00pm for apres ski and informal chats.

    Full refund, less a $50 per person administrative fee, will be issued for cancellations received by January 10, 2018.No refunds will be issued for cancellations received thereafter. Refunds will be processed after the meeting.
