2018 International Emory
Global Health Case Competition

Connecting Students from Diverse Fields to
Address a Global Health Challenge

Who can participate in the International Emory Global Health Case Competition?

Graduate and undergraduate students enrolled at accredited universities are invited to participate. Teams should be comprised of four to six students, and at least three schools within your university must be represented. For example, your team could include students from your university’s nursing, medical, and business schools. Or your team could include students from your university’s public health, law, and theology schools. The combination of disciplines does not matter so long as you have at least three different schools represented. Post-graduate and post-doctoral fellows are not eligible to participate if they are not currently enrolled as students in a degree-seeking program at your university.

How does a guest university apply?

Guest universities may apply to participate online from October 2-16, 2017. An APPLY NOW button will appear and go live on this website at 11:00 am Eastern time on Monday, October 2, 2017 and will remain live until 8:00 pm Eastern time on Monday, October 16, 2017. Teams will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. After many discussions regarding how to include teams, we continue to believe that the first-come, first-served policy is the fairest. Therefore, please ensure that you apply as early as you can during the application period as it fills up very quickly. If you are not one of the first 23 teams to apply, you will have the option to be placed on our waitlist.

If your team is accepted to participate, every team member must update his or her application information by Friday, February 16, 2018. We will not make exceptions - we must have this information for each team member by this date. Information on how to update your team application will be emailed to the main team contact once the initial application period ends if your team has been accepted to participate.

When will I be notified if my team is accepted?

You will receive immediate notification that your team's application has been received. We will alert you of your team's selection status by Friday, October 20, 2017.

If my team is not one of the first 23 teams to register, will there be a waitlist?

Yes, your team will be contacted to confirm your interest in remaining on the waitlist. Additionally, if there is enough interest among wait listed teams, we will once again offer a video version of the competition in 2018.

What will be the cost involved for guest universities to participate?

If your team is selected to participate, you must submit a $600 application fee to us by December 15, 2017. We will provide most meals and lodging during your stay at Emory. Teams will be responsible for paying for their travel to and from Atlanta, GA. Because we will alert you of your team's selection status by October 20, this should give you ample time to collect and submit your application fee.

To whom do I send my application fee?

Please make your $600 application fee check is payable to the Emory Global Health Institute and send it to the following person and address:

Rebecca Baggett
Emory Global Health Institute
1599 Clifton Road, NE
Mailstop 1599-001-1AH

We accept money orders and personal, university, and cashiers checks. International teams can also wire registration fees to EGHI and must provide wire/ACH confirmation numbers and details once sent. However, domestic schools cannot wire funds. Please note that we CANNOT accept payment via credit cards.

Do I need to have confirmed team members to apply?

No. Guest university teams can change individual participants up until February 16, 2018, at which time final participant information will be required. Once your team has been accepted to participate, you will be emailed a link to an online registration form where all team members can enter required personal information in order to best host you and pay you, should your team win a prize. The form will be emailed to the main team contact on October 20, the day you will be notified if your team has been accepted to participate in the competition.
