Welcome and Opening Presentation
Significant demographic changes in the United States increasingly underscore the need for arts organizations to adapt and remain relevant to their constituencies. The latest U.S. Census results shows the Asian population as the fastest-growing ethnic group in the nation, while Latinos are closing the majority gap in California, which would make it the first U.S. state with a non-white ethnic majority. Moreover, the number of households with same-gender parents is rising. As our communities begin to look different from those of past generations, how do we adapt to these changes? Opening speaker Salvador Acevedo suggests that art festivals and fairs provide an excellent platform from which to transition from an outreach model to an engagement model. Establishing a framework in which we recognize that we are changing as much as our potential audiences is increasingly important and could work particularly well for art fairs and festivals because of the social interaction they allow.

10:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
Visual Arts and the Law
Marci Rolnik of Lawyers for the Creative Arts will present information valuable to art festival producers and artists alike! Rolnik’s presentation highlights publication and licensing issues and addresses the right of using images for publicity purposes in the context of intellectual property and copyright law.

Deanna Henion, Connie Mettler, and Karla Prickett, a panel comprised of artists and administrators, will dissect the good, the bad, and the ugly of the jury process. Session moderated by Leah Alters.
