Regarding the High School Application, Eligibility, and Selection

1. If I have an S/M/N series passport; can I use this to travel to the U.S.?

No. The only passports valid for travel to the U.S. are the A and G series.

2. I don’t have an A or G passport; how can I get one?


You must locate your closest passport office in Iraq and contact them regarding the latest procedures for obtaining your passport.

3. I was on the high school IYLEP program and now I am a college student. Can I apply for the IYLEP undergraduate program this year?

No, unfortunately the US Embassy does not allow past participants (alumni) to participate on the IYLEP program more than once.

4. I was on the undergraduate IYLEP program, and now I am done with school or still in college. Can I apply for the IYLEP high school adult mentor program this year?

No, unfortunately the US Embassy does not allow past participants (alumni) to participate on the IYLEP program more than once.

5. Can siblings apply to the IYLEP?

Yes, siblings can apply to IYLEP.

6. I am 14 years old but will be 15 by the time the program starts in July.  Can I apply for IYLEP 2012?

Yes.  In order to be eligible to participate in IYLEP, you must be 15 by the time the program begins.  If you will be 14 by the time the program begins, then you are ineligible to apply this year.

7. I am currently 18 years old and in high school.  I will be 19 by the time the program starts in July.  Can I apply for IYLEP 2012?

No. In order to be eligible to participate in IYLEP, you must NOT be older than 18 by the time the program begins.  If you will be 19 by the time the program begins, then you are ineligible to apply this year.

8. I was selected as a finalist/alternate for IYLEP 2011, but was unable to participate; do I need to re-apply to be considered for IYLEP 2012?

Yes. Application procedures and requirements have changed since the 2011 application, therefore you are required to re-apply.

9. I do not meet the age requirements for IYLEP, can I still apply?


No.

10. Will I receive confirmation that my application has been received?

Yes. You will receive a computer-generated email.

11. Will I receive notice whether or not I have been accepted to the program?


Due to the high-level of applications we receive, we may not be able to contact all those that have applied. If you have not received an invitation for an interview by the end of February, you can assume that you were not selected.

12. What if I am not accepted to IYLEP this year; can I apply again next year?

Yes.
