Apply for a Scholarship

DEADLINE to apply is Friday, May 1, 2015

Thanks to the generous support of the California Bar Foundation, a limited number of scholarships are available. Scholarships are intended to enable legal services advocates, court-based program staff or contractors and justice partners from small and rural programs that generally have fewer resources and opportunities for training to fully participate in Pathways to Justice.

Scholarships will cover the conference registration fee valued at $225. Partial travel expenses may also be reimbursed on a case-by-case basis. Scholarship applicants will be required to submit an application by Friday, May 1, 2015. Scholarships will be based on criteria below.

Scholarship recipients will be selected and notified by State Bar staff by Friday, May 15, 2015 and will receive instructions to register online. Do NOT register to Pathways to Justice until you are notified of your application status and receive a registration access code.

To submit a scholarship application, review the criteria, conditions and complete the application form.

CRITERIA

Eligibility for scholarship awards are based on one or more of the following criteria:

  • Staff from a main or branch office of a “qualified legal services provider” (grantee of the Legal Services Trust Fund Program, also referred to as an IOLTA-funded program) located in a rural area to be a speaker and/or attendee at the conference.

  • Staff from a main or branch office of a “qualified legal services provider” with qualified expenditures of $500,000 or less per office to be a speaker and/or attendee at the conference.

  • Staff from a non-IOLTA funded entity providing legal assistance to low- or moderate-income individuals such as a court-based program (including contractors), lawyer referral service, public interest law project, or other access to justice partner located in a rural area to be a speaker and/or attendee at the conference.

  • Staff or a board member from any IOLTA or non-IOLTA funded program with compelling extenuating financial circumstances to be a speaker and/or attendee at the conference.

  • Priority will be given to individuals from entities that did not send an attendee to the 2012 Pathways to Justice Conference in Los Angeles.
