     By Air

The most direct route by air to Duluth is to the Duluth International Airport (DLH).  It is a short 15 minute drive to campus and 20 minutes to our conference hotel.  Please note that the only airlines serving the Duluth airport are Delta and United.  Holiday Inn Downtown, our designated conference hotel, provides free parking and complimentary shuttle service, though for large groups special arrangements may need to be made.  Cabs and Car rental services are also available at the airport.

Often, the most cost-effective way to travel to Duluth by air from out of state is to fly into the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and to drive to Duluth. (Since this will then entail the additional expense of rental car, shuttle or bus, you will need to determine if this is, indeed, most cost effective for your particular needs). The journey from Minneapolis to Duluth averages 2.5 hours via I-35.  All the major car rental agencies are available at MSP.  There is also shuttle bus service between downtown Duluth and the MSP airport with Skyline Shuttle or traditional bus service via Jefferson Lines.  If you will be pursuing this option and need directions for the drive from Minneapolis to Duluth, please see the "By Car" section below.

     By Bus

Duluth is served by both Jefferson Lines and Greyhound.  Depending on where you are coming from, Jefferson has an advantage in that it makes a stop directly at the UMD campus, whereas the Greyhound station in Duluth is a good distance across town.

    By Car

   Local Transportation in Duluth:

A map of the campus, including parking can be found here:  UMDparkingmap.pdf

Unfortunately, there are no hotels within easy walking distance of UMD's campus.  However once you get here, all of the conference festivities are centered in or near the Marshall Performing Arts Center (MPAC) and in easy walking distance of each other as well as local restaurants for lunch and dinner options.  Duluth is quite navigable as a city, and one advantage of being a place routinely experiences winter driving, our public works and campus Facilities Management are very good about keeping roads and sidewalks plowed, sanded, and salted as needed.  (I know, we're talking about March.  So we can cross our fingers that we will be on our way to spring, but it is also possible there will still be a good two feet of snow on the ground.)

Taxis can be called but cannot be hailed and the ride between campus and the Holiday Inn hotel will be about $13.00.  The Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) is our local bus system.  Routes 6, 11, and 13 provide service between downtown and UMD.  Single rides are $0.75 off peak (9am-2pm and after 6pm) and $1.50 at peak morning and afternoon hours.

On campus parking within easy walking distance of conference activities will be available in the UMD Public Pay Lot G, as well as in Maroon and White Permit lots.  As the conference is happening over spring break, usual fees will not be enforced in these lots.  (link: UMDparkingmap.pdf.  This is the same map as above under Local Transportation). There are also a few metered areas that are close to conference activities, however meters will be enforced even during break.  Information coming soon on whether parking passes identifying conference attendees will be required, and if so, whether any fees will be involved.

ACDA has secured a large block booking at the Holiday Inn and Suites Downtown Duluth, allowing for all conference participants to be in the same place. When making your reservation, indicate that you are with American College Dance Association to get the reduced rates quoted below.  Given that there may be schools wishing to arrive on Tuesday evening March 7th and/or stay through Saturday night March 11th, rooms will be available at the conference rate for those nights as well as Wednesday through Friday nights.

Detailed hotel information follows.  Room rates are per night.
