Metro Map: http://www.wmata.com/rail/maps/map.cfm

  • Follow metro bus and train maps and schedules to navigate to the Medical Center Station on the Red Line of the Metro system.
  • Exit at the Medical Center Station to gain access to the NIH campus via The Gateway Center. The Gateway Center is immediately in front of the escalators that serve as the primary entrance and exit to Medical Center Station.
  • Once in the Gateway Center, you must present a government issue ID to gain access to campus. Please see the NIH Gateway Center website for additional security information.
  • Upon exiting the Gateway Center, follow the attached map to building 35A. The Porter Center (Building 35A) is on Covent Drive (10-15 minute walk) or look for Campus Shuttle (red sign) bus service (map, schedule). Do not get on the Campus Limited Shuttle (purple sign) as this will not stop at the Porter Center.

Taxi
There are two entrances available to you for the NIH main campus if being dropped off by taxi. The primary entrance (that most taxi drivers are likely to be familiar with) is the Gateway Center on the east side of the NIH campus. Note that the NIH campus shuttle regularly stops at the Gateway Center and members of the IMAT program team will be leading groups on foot to the Porter Center between 8AM – 8:15AM. If entering the campus at the Gateway Center, follow these directions:

  • Ask your driver to drop you off at the NIH Gateway Center next to the Medical Center Metro Station.
  • Please note if you request the driver to bring you on campus, please allow additional travel time for inspection of the vehicle, taxi driver, and yourself.
  • Once in the Gateway Center, you must present a government issue ID to gain access to campus. Please see the NIH Gateway Center website for additional security information.
  • Upon exiting the Gateway Center, follow the attached map to building 35A. The Porter Center (Building 35A) is on Covent Drive (10-15 minute walk) or look for Campus Shuttle (red sign) bus service(map, schedule). Do not get on the Campus Limited Shuttle (purple sign) as this will not stop at the Porter Center.

The West Gateway Center is also available for pedestrian visitors, is located on the west side of the campus and is much closer to the conference center. If entering the campus at the West Gateway Center, follow these directions:

  • Ask your driver to drop you off at the NIH West Gateway Center at the intersection of Old Georgetown Road and South Dr.
  • Please note that your taxi will not be allowed to enter the campus from this entrance, and the remainder of the distance will have to be on foot.
  • Once in the Gateway Center, you must present a government issue ID to gain access to campus. Please see the NIH Gateway Center website for additional security information.
  • From the West Gateway Center, follow the attached map to building 35A. The Porter Center (Building 35A) is on Covent Drive (<5 minute walk).

Taxi fare from Reagan Washington National Airport is approximately $45 and from Dulles International $50 and BWI Marshall is $80, respectively, to Bethesda, MD. Local taxi fares vary depending on the distance from your hotel to the Gateway or West Gateway Centers.
