Se Workshop

Chattanooga, Tennessee

Selenium fate and control in coal-fired power plants is a topic on many of our minds currently.  ADA-ES has, over decades, supported the power industry in the development and implementation of solutions for challenging environmental problems.  That’s why we decided to coordinate a workshop that would help us all get up to speed on state-of-the-art measurement and control options for selenium on both the air and water side in coal-fired plants.

Sponsors for this workshop are engaged in aspects of the multi-faceted, multi-media selenium story.  At the workshop, sponsors will bring their expertise to panel discussions and informal conversations.  Current workshop sponsors are:

ADA-ES, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Advanced Emission Solutions, Inc. that provides emissions control solutions for coal-fired power plants and industrial boilers.  Our goal is to leverage more than 25 years of developing advanced emission control technologies to provide reliable, low-cost, low-hassle solutions to environmental compliance and maintenance challenges.  ADA utilizes predictive modeling techniques combined with our proprietary technologies and chemicals to deliver optimized solutions for each plant.  Our track record includes securing more than 30 US patents for emission control technology, systems, and chemicals as well as supplying over 150 activated carbon injection systems for mercury emissions control.

Lhoist North America, a subsidiary of the Lhoist Group, is a privately-owed mining company with facilities across the US and Canada.  Lhoist supplies a number of high quality calcium based products, including Sorbacal(r) SPS, an enhanced hydrate lime for flue gas treatment of acid gases into many industries including cement, glass, utility, paper, chemical, and waste to energy. Call our FGT Solutions team at 1-800-365-6724 or visit our websites /  for more information.

Redox Solutions is an Indiana-based chemical manufacturer specializing in the development and production of patented custom blended reagents for the treatment of aqueous, gaseous and solid media contaminated with heavy metals or chlorinated solvents. Our reagents are manufactured at our new production facility located in Indianapolis, Indiana since 2010.

Boral North America comprises the Construction Materials and Building Products businesses of Boral USA and Headwaters Inc.  Boral has industry-leading positions in fly ash processing and distribution as well as a concrete block and Denver construction materials business. The fly ash business manages and markets coal combustion products nationally in the USA, including operations and plant services at electrical utility plants.  Fly ash is used as a cement substitute in the concrete construction industry and as an industrial filler in composites. In Building Products, Boral has stone, roofing, light building products and windows businesses, and a 50% share in the Meridian Brick joint venture.

Stantec is a global leader in the A/E/C industry with approximately 22,000 employees in over 400 offices. The company’s water group, one of the largest consultancies in the world, has completed over 2,000 wastewater treatment plant designs. Our process engineers have been instrumental in the development of many of the largest biological selenium removal facilities treating industrial wastewater and power plant FGD.

Cemtek Instruments is a leading supplier of high precision, reliable and professionally engineered gas analyzers for a wide range of monitoring applications.   In the field of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) our focus is on engineering, sales and services that offer solutions to environmental challenges.

Cooper Environmental has been the recognized leader in continuous metals monitoring for more than 10 years.  Our core technology, an automated energy dispersive X-Ray fluorescence analysis module, combines laboratory level detection limits with a patented automated QA/QC system that keeps the operator informed of the quality of every sample taken.  This technology has been incorporated into monitors for measuring ambient air, stack gases, and now water – and has proven very reliable with systems shipped 10 years ago still in operation.
