PRESENTER BIOS

Corey Martin, MD, Allina Physician Resilience and founder of the Bounce Back Project
Corey Martin is a Yale-trained family physician driven to change the delivery of healthcare and improve the mental and physical health of our communities.  He is a founder of the Bounce Back Project (www.bouncebackproject.org) and lead physician in Allina Health’s response to clinician burnout.  Driven to do this work by the loss of two colleagues and friends, Corey strives to create an environment of opportunity in which all of us can do the deep, heartfelt work of changing the way we show up and interact in each other’s lives.  One of the ways he does this is by facilitating resilience retreats for Bounce Travels (www.bouncetravels.com) across the United States and throughout the world.  In his free time, he enjoys working on his farm that he has recently turned into an event center.  He lives in Buffalo, MN with his wife and three daughters.  He is a recovering perfectionist and an aspiring “good enoughist”.

Margaret (Peg) O’Brien, Chair, Labor & Employment Practice Group, Devine Millimet & Branch PA
Peg represents employers in all aspects of employment work, with her daily practice primarily focused on either providing clients with risk management advice during all phases of the employment relationship or aiding clients with a defense in the event of an employment claim.  Peg’s experience includes drafting various employment contracts and employment agreements, including handbooks, as well as counseling on the Fair Labor Standards Act and state wage and hour laws, the federal and state anti-discrimination laws, various federal and state leave laws, whistleblower claims, and enforcement of non-compete and related agreements.  Peg defends employers before the NH Commission for Human Rights, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the US and NH Departments of Labor, the NH Department of Employment Security, and federal and state courts.  Peg also conducts internal investigations and regularly presents on employment law topics.  She earned her B.A. in Computer Science from Colgate University, and her J.D. from George Washington University.  She is past chair of the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section and she serves as her firm’s point person for two "employment law" hotline services offered to members of the New Hampshire Automobile Dealers Association and the NH Center for Nonprofits.  Peg resides in Bedford with her husband and two daughters.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Granite YMCA and the New Hampshire Public Defenders.

Johan Maitland, Director, Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC
Combining his legal training with his experience working with human resource professionals, Johan Maitland works with clients to develop solutions that integrate legal compliance, good human resource practices and strategic alignment with the organization’s mission.  John knows the practical and legal considerations of both non-union and unionized workforces, and he is able to help employers identify and implement effective resolutions to difficult problems. On a daily basis, John provides counseling regarding best practices for managing difficult employee issues in both union and non-union environments. These situations include handling recruitment and hiring issues, responding to allegations of harassment, dealing with employees who are unable to return to work, handling complicated performance issues, or advising on the proper interpretation of the collective-bargaining agreement. John regularly negotiates collective bargaining agreements for numerous regional health care clients, higher education clients, and other entities by collaborating with senior management and negotiation teams to develop effective strategies for negotiations. He also helps clients manage their daily labor relations activities consistent with the organization’s overall labor philosophy. When the need arises, John provides effective and zealous representation in arbitrations and in front of the National Labor Relations Board.
