2018 Workshop on Protein Aggregation and Immunogenicity

Breckenridge, Colorado
Monday, July 30, 2018

Rationale for Workshop

Aggregation of therapeutic proteins can occur during bioprocessing, shipping, storage and even delivery to the patient. Understanding of the roles of aggregates in immunogenicity of therapeutic protein products is critical. Such immune responses can have serious consequences for patients. Also, immunogenicity can be major stumbling block to product development and has even plagued licensed protein therapeutics.

To increase understanding of protein aggregation and its impact on immunogenicity, the Workshop will focus on five central areas: 1) clinical aspects of immunogenicity to therapeutic proteins; 2) model and mechanistic studies of aggregate-induced immunogenicity;  3) insights and challenges with analytical methods; and 4) causes and control of aggregates and particles during bioprocessing and in formulations.

The Workshop registration fee includes pre-Workshop short course, breakfast and lunch each day, coffee breaks, opening and closing receptions, and workshop notebook.

Workshop Overview

Pre-Workshop Short Course. 1-6 pm on July 30

Please see "Short Course" tab for details

Opening reception. There will be an opening reception with buffet dinner at 7 pm on July 30.

Plenary lectures. The Workshop will focus on the key issues through the presentation of plenary lectures in five areas:

  • Clinical aspects of immunogenicity to therapeutic proteins
  • Model and mechanistic studies of aggregate-induced immunogenicity
  • Analytical methods: Insights and challenges
  • Causes and control of aggregates and particles during bioprocessing and in formulations

Small-group breakout sessions. In addition to the invited lectures, there will be small-group breakout discussions for each of the four main areas covered. The small-group discussions will provide an opportunity for all participants to contribute to efforts to discern what is known in each topic area, what critical questions remain unanswered and how to go about getting the needed answers.

Poster session. There will be a poster session for contributed papers on Aug. 1.

Workshop summary. The workshop will conclude with a summary of outcomes of the breakout sessions and a discussion of these outcomes. The overall summary for the Workshop will be posted on-line at the website for AAPS Focus Group on Protein Aggregation and Biological Consequences.

Abstract Submission for Poster Session.

Abstracts should be prepared on a single page with one-inch margins. Abstracts will be reproduced as received for the notebook of the Workshop. Abstracts should be submitted no later then July 1, 2018  to john.carpenter@ucdenver.edu.
