Motivational Interviewing: Skills Building Workshop  
Majella Greene and Tim Godden 
You are invited to attend an experiential morning/afternoon exploring key concepts, principles and the humanness of Motivational Interviewing with Tim Godden (Canada) and Majella Greene (UK), Chair and Vice Chair of the MINT Board of Directors.  Together we will explore the principles of MI through practical exercises, checking out your own motivation and what it feels like to actively listen and listen actively. During the session we will take time to support your own learning journey and think about what or how you might further develop MI practice and knowledge. It will be an active, joyful session with opportunities to connect with each other and time to reflect on your existing practice.

Application of Motivational Interviewing with Alcohol Use and Misuse  
Michael Madson
The evidence supporting the efficacy of Motivational Interviewing with alcohol use and misuse is well established. This introduction to MI will acquaint the audience with how the basic concepts and methods of MI can be specifically applied with individuals misusing alcohol. Examples of MI consistent, slightly consistent and inconsistent application of strategies will be provided. The workshop will also introduce the audience to adaptations of MI that can be integrated into one’s practice as brief interventions with individuals misusing alcohol.

MI and Education  
Rich Rutschman and Sebastian Kaplan
In this workshop Drs. Sebastian Kaplan and Richard Rutschman will explore the growing use of MI in schools for enhancing relationships, improving behavioral and academic outcomes, and helping students explore future options. Karen Hochheiser will also discuss how Tulane University has begun to use MI in higher education. Stories of different applications will be accompanied by participants discussing the opportunities and challenges with implementing MI in schools.

MI in Healthcare Settings

MI in a healthcare setting is helpful in engaging with people who could change their behavior to benefit their health. MI conversations can be extremely effective in supporting people around change including and not limited to; weight loss, stopping smoking, getting more active, medication adherence & managing long term conditions such as diabetes, respiratory and cardiac problems, HIV, and medical conditions complicated by psychiatric disorders and addictive behaviors. This 90-minute experiential workshop on MI in Healthcare will consider the blending of MI skills and strategies into time-limited patient consultations using demonstrations and practice activities.

MI in the Use of Trauma Informed Care 
David Prescott and Mark Asteris
This workshop will explore the benefits of using Motivational Interviewing in the Trauma Informed Care Framework.  This workshop will answer the questions about the how and why MI can help clients in such settings, and how those skills rebuild a client's feelings of safety and empowerment. Through the use of the MI core processes of compassion and acceptance providers can help clients enhance self-efficacy and regain a feeling of control in their lives.
