Spring on the Satilla is the ultimate south Georgia river adventure. In early April, while north Georgia is just emerging from the winter doldrums, the Satilla River in far southeast Georgia will be brimming with life…(and in early April, not brimming with the eternal heat of summer!). For two nights, you’ll tent camp atop Long Bluff at rustic Satilla Lodge overlooking the river and, over the course of two days of paddling, you’ll experience 28 miles of this blackwater gem where moss-draped cypress and tupelo crowd the banks and where it seems oxbow lakes and sloughs radiate from every bend. Educational programs, catered meals, campfires and camaraderie round out a weekend of leisurely paddling and first-rate camping.
Why does Georgia River Network (GRN) offer this paddle trip?
All of GRN's paddle trips are family-friendly. It's a priority of GRN's to offer ways for friends and family to share time together building memories. And what better place to do this than outside on a river! The great thing about a trip like this is that, by the end of the trip, EVERYONE is like one big family. Many life-long friendships have been born out of GRN paddles.
ENJOYMENT OF THE OUTDOORS
Spending time outdoors is fun and healthy! With Spring on the Satilla, you get the chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of the usual day-to-day for four days. Paddling down a river, you see and experience nature in a way that just isn't possible driving down a road. Whether it's sightseeing or having water gun fights or educating yourself on water issues or meeting new people or having meaningful conversations or exploring the local area you are paddling through or meditating in nature, Fall Float on the Flint offers something special for everyone from all walks of life and all ages.
GRN's mission is to help everyone enjoy, connect with and advocate for economically vital and clean flowing rivers. One way in which we do this on Spring on the Satilla is through educating participants on the river's animal life, plant life, water issues, and much more. GRN believes that if you enjoy your rivers, you'll care about your rivers. And if you care about your rivers, you'll want to learn more about them and how you, too, can help protect and restore them.
Spring on the Satilla 2017 is in partnership with Satilla Riverkeeper. Satilla Riverkeeper will receive a grant from GRN. As most know, GRN is a not-for-profit organization. This means we depend solely on grants and donations to do the work we do. If you believe in what we are doing, we hope you will find one or more ways to financially support us. Below are just a couple ways you can do this.
