Professors Omar M. Yaghi and Peidong Yang, two of the world's most recognized scientists, in partnership with the UC Berkeley College of Chemistry have established a research experience program that reaches emerging scholars from the US and abroad during their undergraduate studies.
The Laboratory Research Experience is a 6-week program that: (1) exposes undergraduate scholars to graduate-level research; (2) introduces participants to the scientific method; (3) provides a high quality research environment; (4) performs projects that are at the cutting edge of science; (5) trains participants in the process of collecting and analyzing complex data; and (6) builds the skills to effectively communicate their results. This will be accomplished through complementary lecture-based workshops, skill-building experiments, and research seminars. The emerging scholars will learn all aspects of performing international-level research from UC Berkeley expert scientists.
This is a rolling admissions process. Please note that we will close the application once 30 scholars have been accepted into the program. The cost of tuition is $12,000, which includes faculty and staff, all laboratory and course materials, instrument and research facilities use, seminars, daily lunch, t-shirts and other UC Berkeley "swag", and end-of-the-program research posters.
