Whether you are a Person directing your own services, a Coordinator of Community Services, a Case Manager, a Support Broker, Transition Coordinator, Administrator... facilitating person centered, service, strategic, organizational planning meetings ~ ANY type of meeting ~ this is for you!
Organizations are turning increasingly to collaborative approaches to get work done better and faster. Planning meetings require the best of us in collaboration with others. Practice to manage these skills ~ the result is highly productive, action oriented meetings.
This two-day course in the active facilitation approach ~ presents the role of the facilitator as a combination of leading and supporting, and offers techniques designed to help groups be as creative and productive as they can be, focusing on the skills of:
- Organizing and preparing for meetings
- Opening work sessions
- Leading group discussions
- Helping groups reach consensus
- Managing conflict in groups
This is a no-power-point - hands-on and practice session and includes!
- Brief presentations
- Group discussions
- A self-insight questionnaire
- Small group work
- Action planning

~ Meet the Trainers ~
Elizabeth Vasquez is a management consultant working with not-for-profits, government agencies, and companies in the US and internationally. Elizabeth specializes in organizational development; typical projects involve strategic planning, culture change; partnership development; stakeholder involvement; and leadership training. Ms. Vasquez has consulted with a variety of agencies in the field of services and supports to people with disabilities including The Leadership Institute, University of Delaware Department of Disabilities Studies, The Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities, The US Department of Education and The Council on Quality and Leadership.
Gail Godwin is the Executive Director of Shared Support Maryland, Inc. Gail's MA is from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Education, Program in Severe Disabilities - educational, employment & community inclusion. For over 25 years, she has been an advocate in collaboration with people with disabilities & has worked in service provision organizations at a direct support staff, middle manager, administrator, and in training & development. Gail is a Maryland Association of Community Services Board Member, a graduate and faculty member of the Leadership Institute Consortium on Developmental Disabilities. Gail formerly served 10 years on Maryland’s Developmental Disabilities Council as an Executive Member. She is the co-founder of the New York Downstate Person Centered Consortium. Gail's extensive experience is in Self Directed Service Provision, Positive Supports, Person-Directed Planning & Individualized Supports Organizational Development.
The audience invited is anyone that is in a position of facilitating their own meetings, team meetings, person centered planning meetings, organizational meetings, committee meetings… that's right… all types of collaboration!
