This year's meeting will take place at Tougaloo College and other sites near Jackson, Mississippi. (Participant housing will be offered via the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Ridgeland Jackson North, 6485 Frontage Road, Ridgeland MS 39157, (601)977-6111).
View our Annual Meeting event website (ndsg2018.weebly.com) for specifics on the program, pre-readings, speakers, the Pre-Meeting Institutes, and more.
This year the registration fee for full Annual Meeting attendance is $324 per person for a quadruple (4 persons, 2 queen beds) occupancy room, and $400 for double occupancy room (2 persons, 2 queen beds) with additional options for triple or single occupancy rates. This cost includes the Annual Meeting events, all meals, snacks and hotel accommodations. Vendors in Jackson depend on payment 10 business days in advance. Our ability to provide this depends on your advance registration. The registration deadline is January 28, 2018. The meeting fills very quickly and registration is on a first come, first served basis. Rooms are available from Thursday evening through Sunday morning. If you plan to stay overnight, we ask that you register for the full weekend. Please note that we do not offer an option to register and attend only one day of the weekend. However, we are offering a full registration option (including all Meeting events and meals) without hotel lodging for $250.
Scholarships: The NDSG values diversity, inclusion and equity. To increase access to our gatherings, a limited number of scholarships are available to those who need financial assistance to attend. We expect those who receive financial aid to contribute at least partially to the Annual Meeting costs. In your application, please include your background, what you are doing now, and why you would like to attend the NDSG Annual Meeting. Please be specific about the amount you need. Submit requests for aid in writing to Mary Harris at firstname.lastname@example.org. Preference will be given to requests received before December 15, 2017 as long as funding is available. Please note that requests made after January 21, 2018 cannot be honored. If awarded, you will receive a special code for registration.
Financial Aid Contributions: Please consider helping others, who without financial aid, could not attend the Annual Meeting. Your contributions are vital to sustaining this event. No contribution is too small. Please add your support for financial aid to your total payment.
Cancellation Policy: Full registration refund is given for cancellations through January 15, 2018; thereafter, refunds will be decided by the Finance Committee of the Planning Committee.
Meals: The conference fee includes all meals and snacks. If you have a preference for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or other dietary needs, please indicate these with your registration.
Pre-Meeting Institute: Two pre-meeting institutes are planned on Thursday, February 15, to create powerful experiences that encourage participants to engage deeply with their own racial identity and positions in power. The institutes will include visits to the Medgar Evers House and the new Civil Rights Museum, and continuous reflection on the meaning of these sites for us as educators and activists committed to racial justice. One of the institutes is for white male participants; the other includes anyone. The cost of the institutes is $35 including transportation, admission fees, and lunch. If you wish to participate in one of these institutes, we encourage you to arrive to Jackson on Wednesday night. Lodging for Wednesday, February 14, is available at the conference rate of $87 for a single or $43.50 for a double room. Unless you coordinate this, you will not have the same roommate as for the main meeting. Transportation from the airport/or station and dinner Wednesday night are not included in the institute fee, but we will try to organize shared rides and meet-ups.
