Join us for a Hidatsa Language workshop taught by Lisa Casarez, hosted by UTTC in Bismark. This non-credit workshop is totally FREE, thanks to funding from the Lewis & Clark Trail Endowment. Course materials will be provided.
There will be two courses (one in the AM, one in the PM:
COURSE 1: INTENSIVE HIDATSA FOR BEGINNERS
Designed for beginning second language learners of Hidatsa. Students will learn vocabulary, phrases, and sentence patterns to form an initial communicative base of the language.
COURSE 2: HIDATSA PHONOLOGY I
The primary linguistic introduction to the Hidatsa phonetic system– its sounds and writing system. The week-long course will be devoted to an overview of the Hidatsa phonetic system and will focus on consistency in speaking and writing
Courses will be taught by Lisa Casarez, the K-12 Hidatsa language teacher at Mandaree School on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota. Lisa holds a Media Arts A.A.S. 2010) from UTTC and a B.A. in Communications from U. of North Dakota. She is an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes, dedicated to helping revitalize the Hidatsa language.
