Winter Break: Dream or Nightmare?
Family Tension over the Holidays
Parents through the teenage years hold anxieties regarding starting high school, applying for college, or anticipating what life will be like after graduation. Parents & Conversations provides an initial forum for an exploration among parents as to how these developmental trials have evolved in the post-millennial period.
Winter break is anticipated as a time of festivity for families, whether at home or away on vacation. Cultural messages and our best intentions direct us to seek joy and togetherness. Yet, the moodiness and temperamental nature of teenagers challenge even our most balanced expectations. The dream of warmth and love can easily lapse into moments of tension, or even into a nightmare of outright conflict.
Join us in the second of our ongoing series of Parents & Conversations as we explore what to expect from holidays with teenagers, what precautions we can take to decrease the chance for turbulence and how we can navigate the more difficult moments.
