Join educators in one of three options for lively workshops that enable you to teach students how to read and spell using critical thinking skills, while developing a lifelong understanding of how the English spelling system works. This SWI approach eliminates rote memorization and explores a linguistic understanding of spelling that is all but absent from typical teacher training and resources.

Peter Bowers, PhD, shares this engaging approach by using inquiry-led classroom activities to clearly demonstrate how English spelling is actually a well-ordered system that makes sense.

This approach emphasizes the use of scientific investigation and critical thinking. We will delve into and investigate the English spelling system by using linguistic tools including morphological word sums, matrixes, grapheme-phoneme diagrams, and flowcharts.

Rebecca Loveless, will present throughout the five days bringing practical examples from Nueva classrooms to the Institute, and additional Nueva teachers will also lead sessions.  Details on specific Nueva teacher presenters to come.
