Outside the Study Abroad Box: Working with Non-Traditional and Non-Credit Travelers
Students on U.S. campuses are traveling internationally to pursue all kinds of experiences that haven’t traditionally been called “study abroad.” Education abroad offices are often called on to step in when things go wrong for these students, even if they don’t have all the information they want or need. Panelists Catherine Bogle, Senior Study Abroad Coordinator at University of Colorado Denver, and Beth Osterlund, Assistant Director, Global Safety and Security, Northwestern University, share their tried and true tactics for connecting with non-credit and non-traditional travelers on their campuses and supporting safe international educational travel of all kinds.
• Defining “university sponsored” travel
• Finding non-traditional and non-credit travelers where they are
• Preparation and support for non-credit/non-traditional travelers
• How to support policies related to these groups
